My computer has issues

Well, I figured out what Firefox is, downloaded it to my computer, and since doing that I cant get my BV to download. Could this be related ? I tried also in IE and it wouldnt work there either...

not to mention if I hit the apostrophe key now I get kicked out of here (this box) and up the BV forum page!!!

OMG, and he is not a woman, either! Was I way off lol! Hey Holly, can I download another BV without losing all my info in the one I have the worthless icon on my desktop for? Would my own BV files transfer into the newly downloaded version? ( I can't believe I run into so many dang glitches!!)

I'm just a laugh a minute...

ok DANGIT! I downloaded BV again...and no new icon appeared, just the same one I had before on my desktop- clicked it, won't open. Also clicked from my start menu and BV won't open. What the heck am I doing wrong? I swear I'll kill myself if I lost all my work.

okay Leeza ... lol ... you are so funny ...

Go into your MY DOCUMENTS and in there you will see a Blue Voda Folder, all of your work will be in there ... you will see blue files with the extension .bvp .... I am sure you are safe there.

If you are double clicking your icon on your desktop and it is not working, hmmm ...

Go into your BV from your start menu .... that should open ...

try right clicking on your icon and open it that way too .....

remove the icon from the desktop and set a new one ... it will probably start working again, I've had to do this for things in the past .... not sure why, but I have

HHHHHHHHHHHmmmph. Ok I tried everything...rebooted also..and clicked everywhere I could..still won't open.

I looked at an old thread and it said to delete everything BV, then install the new one. If I do that will I lose all my work? I think that's the next thing I must try...

PS I'm sorry Vodahost I didn't see your post...Firefox made a mess, I think I uninstalled everything now..but BV quit working after I downloaded Firefox. IE still worked. And I'm still stuck here...I removed the shortcut icon and got an error message "could not creat shortcut see if disc is full" I have no clue what that could mean...

...would someone get my heart beating again and let me know that if my files show a size (e.g. aromatherapy says is 62 kb) that they are indeed somewhere in my computer and it's just a matter of time before I find them???

Thanks AllStar..I did run search on five of my files..shows they are in my docs...but when I click on them, they still won't open- I get the error message that WINDOWS cannot find them, and then it asks me to search again.

..did you happen to see my question...should I first go in and delete the old BV I've been using and THEN download the new one? I'd THINK that if my files are in "MY DOCUMENTS" that they would stay there even if I delete the program and can't seem to access them at the moment..but dont want to do that until I get reassurance that this WILL be the case by someone like you way up there in the knowledge arena!

I am beginning to believe its because of the microsoft updates that were out this week .....

check your security settings under tools in internet explorer ... get rid of firefox for sure, I would agree with that ...

You should be fine Leeza uninstalling the blue voda program ... it should not take all your .byp files, they will remain on your computer

Please confirm to me before you do this that you do indeed see your .bvp files I mentioned earlier.... in your MY DOCUMENTS

Ok...checked all page icons..all have .bvp extension...but Windows just says it cannot locate the file. With this being the case, what should I UNISTALL? I presume just the "BlueVoda Website Builder" that is listed under "all progams" as well as in my control panel...but uninstall from control panel that's it. I want to make sure I don't blow anything up here!

Okay and all those files were on your computer in the Blue Voda file folder that was in your MY DOCUMENTS .... okay they will not be touched, just go ahead and uninstall the website builder and firefox too .... then go and download the website builder again, you can find the link to that in my signature here ..... be certain that your firewall is not blocking it, and if prompted to allow this site to your list of trusted sites, click yes ... if any of that appears .....

You should be safe!!

ohhhh grooooaaaaan....did that, and got as far as "setup"..when I tried to setup after the download, got two error messages:
"error in compressed file- bad CRC"
"could not extract support files- setup will abort."

what's a CRC? My computer hates me.

Error Message "Error in compressed file - Bad CRC" (Bad Download)
Solution:
To fix the problem, you simply need to try downloading again. Following the steps below should increase your chances of being successful on your next download attempt. If you don’t do the following, the browser will repeatedly re-use part or all of the bad file to cut dowload time even though you are trying to fully re-download the file again. Another option is to use a completely different browser (if you have more than one) to try downloading again. Note that AOL uses Internet Explorer, so they are essentially the same browser.

Delete the Setup file that contains the error or problem.
Empty your Temporary Internet Files folder. In Internet Explorer, click on the ‘Tools|Internet Options...’ menu, then click on the [Delete Files...] button, then click [OK] to delete the files. You will not lose any important data by doing this. The Temporary Internet Files are files that Internet Explorer creates and uses as you surf the internet.
Try downloading the file again.
Try to refrain from downloading too many other things at the same time.

Ok did that...from your post page, zip file is corrupted...from IE same messages as last time (CRC)...I even closed out of almost all my progams and doc files before doing it...next suggestion?

whiiiiine...nope no good. This time it went thru whole installation and setup, said was downloaded successfully. But when I tried to open the file- from desktop/from start menu/ from "all programs...won't open. Think this is still a BV problem or a problem on my computer?

By the way, you're awesome at helping me/ and I'm sure others/ out here! Don't forget that! (even if you DO look funny/cute trying to be Vasili)

You cannot open .bvp files just by clicking on them ... you have to open them within you web builder ... so you are saying now you do not have the blue voda web builder and that is why you were trying to download it ... and this all happened yesterday after downloading firefox, after this your blue voda would not open from the icon on the desktop ....

okay is this is the story and you are sticking to it ... and you have tried everything else, do a system restore on your computer, take your computer back to the timeline of a few hours before you downloaded firefox, see if this helps.

Does anyone else think Leeza should do this? Perhaps get a few other opinions first Leeza ....

Just say your posts and reallized that a system restore should not be a problem as long as you DONT GO PAST the FireFox download.
I am sure most of us here have had to do a system restore at least once since we have owned a P.C.. It seems risky although as long as you don't have any vital info that you need to keep you should be fine.
Either way I understand that time and effort went into building your site and at the present it is probably your #1 priority to finish and publish, but this crazy web-internet stuff can all be worked out with patience and a cool head.
Give the restore option a try after listening to some more comments from the pros here at B.V.. Lady Eye always had the best advice when I put my site together http://lightningcycles.ca .

I ended up in this state because..ummm..welll..hmmm.
Ok lets see if I can take this from the top-

1)I had trouble because my text and images were displaced when people on other computers looked at my sit. NavDesign suggested either shorten my pages or 'adjust' them in Firefox and IE. I noticed some of my short pages had displacement too so I figured "find out what Firefox is." I did, and said "wow,just another way to get onto the internet- and downloaded it so I could see if I could 'adjust' my pages from there.

2) After downloading it and all it's goodies, my computer looked like a 5 yr old got to it..all sorts of icons, toolbars, etc.. I ignored that and tried to open BV Website Builder. It wouldn't open. That is the first time I RECALL having trouble opening BV Website Builder.

3) Then, LadyEye, you and I went through all the steps you suggested to me earlier to try to open BV Website Bldr, and in the end I figured best thing (you agreed) was to delete Firefox. Did that, and BV still wouldn't open. (present tense "won't.") In the end I asked if I should delete the BV Website Bldr. I had and do a new download of it. So I deleted BV and since then have tried to download the BV Website Builder a bunch of times and keep getting the errors I wrote of.
Can you see how I got here now?

I guess the best thing to do (besides keep away from the oxygen bars...) is to follow Vodahost's advise and give up on my own self. Ohhh sigh. Thanks to everyone for your help, and Vodahost, if I have any problem doing what you've told me to do (re: cleaning it all up) I'll write to you.

BEFORE I do that tho, should I try a sys restore? If so, can someone give me a gentle reminder how to get to that calendar thing to do so?

WHEWWWWWW. I'm back. Alive and well...well enough. I HATE FIREFOX!!!! However, I must give credit, the program did not delete all my work so I guess I should be thankful. Kinda hard after 1 1/2 days thinking 4 mos. work gone kablooyeyyyy...but to all you who helped, LadyEye especially, Genl Vodahost, Kenb, AllStarFaces...you were Godsent. Nothing else could explain it. LUVS YOU!!!!!

You can download your sites via ftp so your work will at least be safe there. You might have to recreate your template.bvp but that shouldnt be a problem, just a little work.

You could do a system restore, and no danger to your existing sites you have published as the restore wont affect your online files, so even if you somehow snapped up a virus from where ever you downloaded firefox from, and have to reformat or restore factory settings, you should be ok there.

Thanks for the advise...however I don't know the first thing about ftp...
I've only seen the words written here and there in forum...

I don't have a template.bvp file, really. I've just saved my pages with other names per a suggestion from someone long ago. I'd like to know how to use all these tools you all suggest to me, but I'm just too new at the whole thing...so much to learn, and so confused as to where to start!!!

THIS problem is resolved, I think, as everything seems to be working since I did my system restore. BUT... I'll keep your note for future reference! Merci!
