    Default IE Question

When I make a search using IE, the search result window overlays the window from which I made the search and then it won't respond. How can I make the search appear in a different tab or window?
    Thanks.

That's what I mean. I'm using the forums search to search the forum but when I do, the page is overlaid onto the original page and won't respond. It doesn't happen when I use FF. Since IE lets me grey out the colors on the webpages (which is easier on my eyes) I use IE instead of FF. You'll probably just tell me to use FF when I want to search the forums, but I was hoping there might be another answer.

I dont know what you are doing to get the page overlay.. when i click the search button i get a little drop down box with a window to type my search into.. even when i go to advanced.. it opens a new page. NO OVERLAY. you must be right clicking and opening in a new window or something.

Nope. In fact, I have to right click and open every new page in any part of the BlueVoda website in a new tab, not just in the forums. If I just click on link to navigate to another page, the new page opens on top of the first one. So I can get around it by opening up each subsequent page in a new tab. But with the search window in the forums, there's no way to right click on it and open it in another tab, you can only click go (or enter) and it opens it in the same tab -- for me, as an overlay! But, like I say, it works fine in FF, only in IE is this a problem.

You must have altered the settings in IE or installed some addon to open everything in a new tab. I dont have that issue

I dont know.. did you do something? Change settings? Download a tool bar of some sort? You can try looking in tools, addons and see if you have any installed, you can go to internet settings and restore defaults

Are you positive you are using the forum search? Under the voda logo on the second blue bar? or are you searching on a browser bar?

Yup! Second bar, third choice from the right. The same overlay problem also happens when I refresh any page in the BV website. Before I posted my other post today of how to make a diagonal line, I did a search for diagonal line, the result was overlaid but I saw one previous post called "diagonal line" but I couldn't get to it, so I posted the question myself.

You mention about greying out colors... did you by any chance install any microsofts accessibility modules for sight impairment? because that might be doing it. IE is a microsoft program

Ah, when you are doing this search, look down below and see if a window is open, you may need to physically pull this page up from down in your bar below .. this can happen and what will happen is you can keep trying to open the page, but your page is already open, it just doesnt come up until you click on it down below .. maybe even twice ..

Karen Mac: nope, no sight impairment modules from Microsoft loaded.
LadyEye: I don't know what you mean by a window being open, or physically pulling the page up from down in my bar below. When the page overlays, it's frozen. It won't move by the mouse or by the scrollbar on the right side.
Thank you both for answering me so many times!

yes, well down at the bottom of your computer screen is a toolbar so to speak (its called something, lol) anyway .. have a look and see if you see that the page is open down there already, sometimes your browser just doesn't pull the page up onto your screen, you have to manually click down below to bring it up to view on your screen ..

Smile Re: problem searching the forums

Okay, I know what you mean. What's happening now is if I do a search, the page turns completely grey (I don't have the colors turned off in IE). If I click on the "back" button (at the upper left) it shows the search results, not overlaid on the previous page, but still frozen, and won't move. If I then click on the "page button" on the bottom toolbar, the page minimizes down, then if I click it again, the original page from which I made the search appears and I can't find the search result page again; clicking on the "forward" button takes me back to the all grey page that first appeared. I am exhausted. I've had it for this problem. I have to take a break. I'll just use FF for any searches and squint. Thanks both of you for tagging along with me.

I started out this post as a Sergeant, but I see now I've been promoted to a Staff Sergeant!! It pays to post on BlueVoda!!
