A lot of sites, including my own, do not have search functions.
What do you all think, are they worthwhile?

I think itdepends on the kind of site you have ....I think your site is very specific and well organized and does not require a search function and you don't want your customers leaving your site and it's so easy to seach using he search bar that is on our browsers anyway....hope that helps...lol

Might help others who read about it "Search" and want to inlcude it.
I think any store should have a search function. I use them extensively when I shop online. They also, if you use them properly, can help you see what people are looking for. I've been able to suggest we make certain pinatas that way, for example.
As easy as my stores are made to navigate - the search function is one more way- and something that some people use extensively instead of a store's navigation.
I have recently installed a SITE only search program because its gone from a 3 page site to 236 pages, and like beth, I believe that it helps the site navigation.
Hiya Bill,
Although I am relatively new to the website creation business, I have been surfing the internet for a little over 6 years now. I think a site that has hundreds of pages would benefit from a search option, because we all dont think alike. How one designer groups his content into his navigation subjects, someone else ( visitor/customer ) may think in an entirely different way and wouldnt be able to find what they are looking for, without a search option that is.
So yeah I think they are a good thing to have. Especially on the large sites.
Still it would just be one more option/bonus even on the smaller sites.
Just a newbie's opinion...
