Question MS Media OS vs. XP ???

I just got an HP 17" screen laptop (not delivered yet) loaded with the MS Media OS, and am wondering if there is anything to be concerned about: I am an XP-Pro user from way back, so is this going to be something that will "add" or "detract" from my user experience? I am not sure if it has the 'full-boat' Office package, or if I will have to load it myself from another systems's CD. Other than a lot more versatility to fiddle around with music, DVD, and other media (I'm not a gamer), was this a mistake or not?

Any advice, or head's-up you can offer???

I have a friend who went from 'pro' to 'media' because he
has a lot of game, music and pic content. So far he hasn't complained
about anything, but I'll check up on him. Don't know for sure about
the office stuff.

There are some differences between Office Pro and the Home Edition, mostly with PowerPoint, nothing you can't deal with.
