Paint.NET Adobe Photoshop Clone

We have been getting a lot requests lately for graphics editing software that
is comparable in features and quality to Adobe PhotoShop with out the hefty
price tag.

After spending no less than 3 days downloading and testing the good, the bad
and the ugly of probably every graphics editing software in the known universe.

We have a winner!, Its Called Paint.NET - and it is 100% FREE!

Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used
on Windows computers. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects,
and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development at
Washington State University as an undergraduate senior design project
mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the
alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement
for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a
powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing.

Paint.NET gives commercial photo editing programs some serious
competition, which is all the more impressive since it began as a classroom
project. This free program was developed by a team of computer science
students at Washington State University, under a partnership with
Microsoft.

In order for you to run Paint.NET on your computer. You must have
microsofts .net framework installed, If you do not have it installed or
you do not know what it is, please select Download Location A.

A word to the wise, this is a huge program with lots of features that
will take time to learn. Once you you have mastered them, you will
be able to create some very professional eye catching graphics.

This is great ! a much better tool than Photo Impression or MSN Paint.

I am using this program in my college, I like it very much. Photoshop
is a little better but it costs 600$ and this one is free, it does more or
less the same thing. I think I will stick with this one for now.

Wasnt till I loaded it all that I found out I cant use it cos i'm still on windows 98! grrrrr

Ok..now we know not to use it on Windows 98, as matter of fact, I would only recommend using it on XP or above.

The smaller pixel size makes for a higher resolution images. the color droper is far easier to use than value numbers. However when using
image magnification to do detailed repairs to an image, you must remember to flip the image first in order to work on the right hand side.
by fliping the image it becomes the left hand side (upside down) and accessable. I was still playing with it when it was all deleted from my puter. So I guess it's not fool proof, just takes the right fool to wreck it. I will definately reload
this program and try again.

Although the custom colors are easier to use, It's a little fustrating to need to go back to tools after using the color droper. I guess I should make this comment on there forum.

Thanks for the link to their forum. I've bookmarked it for easy access. I've only played with it for a few hours I still haven't realized its full potetial.

too large for me to download....I have .net but not that one that program needs...so Id have to do the whole 49mgs!...oh well, Ive got plenty others. I like ***8 thats a good one...one day I might be able to try it.

My first post. I just joined today. I have downloaded paint.net and have used it for a few days. I love the program but I'm having trouble with the clone tool. I want to select a section of my foreground layer and then clone to fill a new blank layer with my selection from the foreground. I have read several explanations but I can't get it to work. I guess i need step by step info. TIA

I have Photoshop cs2, Photoshop elements & I still use paint.net for most things as I find it more user friendly. Not that the other two don't have thier purpose but if I only had paint.net I wouldn't feel limited. Nice score!!

Paint.net is brilliant. Its helped me so much on my 3D design course.

Its quicker and easier than photoshop with very similar tools and it has lots of effects that are made by the paint.net community which are intergrated in newer versions or you can import then as Plugins.

With experience you can create amazing webpage content.
