after publishing my site can I make changes such as add html etc?

You can add html to your page in BV & re-publish, but this will over write the page on the server.

what you mean over write the page on the server is this a problem?

Not a problem! If you make a change to a page, like some extra html or a new image. When you re-publish the page it will over write (replace) the page that was on your site.
