Thread: how long a page name should be? (to be SE friendly)

Hi,

I just want to double check if there's any rules regarding the length of the name. I've read somewhere that it shouldn't be longer than 25 characters , otherwise can be considered spamming and not friendly to the search engines.

Any ideas?

Think about your visitors - if you want them to be able to find the page - the easier it is, the better. Therefore, in most cases, you don't want to let the names get too long. EVERY page to your site can be the page that people come in on - or the one they want to save to favorites, etc - not just the home page - so thought should go into all of them - not just for what's on them, but for their names. The name should reflect the page - but adding words just to add words shouldn't be done - if it makes sense, then don't count characters.

It's hard to make it shorter.

Those are pretty self-explanatory- I don't see a problem with them - even if they are slightly long.
