Default add on domain & publishing

OK, it's a rocky start for me.

I initially signed up with greenlightaustin.com as my domain of choice. After building the site, I decided to keep my original & already established domain of greenlightlocating.com. I transferred the domain over to Voda.

How do I publish everything to greenlightlocating.com & leave greenlightaustin.com out of the equation? Is it easy?

I went to addon domains & added greenlightlocating.com, but when I look at it in ftp manager / ftp accounts, it shows as greenlightlocating@greenlightaustin.com (public_html/greenlightlocating)

What have I done, how do I undo it, and what are my options?

I tried publishing, and I get:

is that just b/c i've just published it? Does it take 24 hours?

Your main page must be index.html.

My main page is saved as "index" in Blue Voda.

Are you saying that, from what you're seeing, I haven't named/saved it correctly?

The one called 'index' .. also .. make sure the format of the page is .html in the Page Properties when you open your document and right click.

They're all that way (html). Index.html, as seen in that screen shot, is just for illustration; it didn't exist previous to that.

I appreciate the effort to help.

Assuming that's not my problem, anyone have any other suggestions?

Hi, I would go into control panel, file manager and delete those two files from the folder of your add on domain, then you need to name save and publish your page as index - index only ... not index.html - by default your .bvp file will publish as a .html file ... don't use the .html in the name of the file

    All,

Sorry, the illustration of index.html vs index in my Voda files is doing me more harm than good. I never had a file loaded like that, I simply copied my index file, renamed it for a visual aid.

    Thanks though.

Yes, but the screenshot of your parent directory is not showing us that an index page has been published ... your add on shows as being on your voda servers, however, your index page is not showing, have you published an index page to public_html/greenlightlocating ??

I'm not sure. I think the majority of my quandry is that I signed up w/ greenlightaustin.com, then decided to go w/ greenlightlocating.com; I'm not sure if there's a sub folder, a different root directory, or another IP that I'm supposed to be using.

You're saying that if I've published it, it would no longer be in the folder which I've shown in the screen shot?

    Dang, I'm really confused.

I tried to remove it and reinstall it:

When I finished, I got this:

    I'm nervous

    Okay ... let me try

First question I should ask is, have you asked voda host to remove your greenlightaustin domain from your account? I am assuming you have not .. and you shouldn't anyway, as you can always use this domain name as a pointing name to your new one, at least while the year lease on the domain name is in effect ...

Your new domain, greenlightlocating is pointing to your voda servers and looks like it has been added correctly as an add on domain.

Now you need to publish that file named index, that I see in the screenshot, publish it from your blue voda webbuilder to public_html/greenlightlocating directory - this is the directory for this domain ...

You use the same ip address and passwords

We can talk about what you can do with the index file of your main domain after you get this sorted ...

Don't be nervous .. try publishing that index to public_html/greenlightlocating (you have to actually type that domain name after public_html in the publishing area in blue voda)

so, when I'm publishing, I manually add the /greenlightlocating after the public_html?

I have. Now, when I go back to publish a second page, the index page, if correctly done, should no longer be there?

I just went back in to publish a second page, and [index] is still there... do I have it or do I don't?

thanks for the edit. I caught it, tried to go back & change it, fumbled, and ran off the field. Thanks for the safety net.

great job ... your new domain name is working and is hosting the index page that was on your main domain correct ...

And ... it is also appearing on the index page of your main domain

So in all reality, you have two domains with the exact same page ... okay ..

Correct ... do you see this? Now we will do something else ...

First we will remember that we will type the name of that domain after public_html when publishing all pages inthe future other than this page now.

Until your main domain runs out you might as well have it in use. When it is ready to renew you can then decide whether or not it is worthwhile to keep or let go ...

Now on your computer, go into your blue voda folder which is located in MY DOCUMENTS - make a new folder called redirect page ...

In your web builder open a new blank page ... name and save that page as index in this new folder called redirect - then I want you to publish it to public_html only .. remove what you typed there ...

Once you have published that blank index page to your public_html (only) directory, log into your control panel and choose the icon redirect, then redirect austin to locating - both domain urls will go to the one page ..
then you will always publish your pages to public_html/greenlightlocating

Got it. While I have you here, and rather than make a new thread, if the navigation I've populated has some errors to it, where/how do I make the changes once it's already published?
