Default New at making changes to an existing site

I have made text changes to a copy of my home page that was done by a webmaster. This is my first effort.
I am uncertain on what name to place on my rewritten page before replacing the origional front page.
My domain url is http://www.kurtnmarina.com and is the page I have rewritten.
    The sitemap is here: http://www.kurtnmarina.com/sitemap.xml
as I see the first listing as http://www.kurtnmarina.com/
and the next listing as http://www.kurtnmarina.com/index.htm
also is .htm the same as .html
Thank you for your much appreciated guidance.
    Kurt

WEll ... The above is correct except.. dont list them as you wish. List ONE version or the SE will think its two different pages. People usually just use the .com without the index for the home page. And make sure to use just one version for your other pages. Now if this is an xml sitemap not seen by visitors.. the htm should auto process it as html. Mostly its a microsoft thing that makes the htm rather than html.

My web design life is still complicated by this .htm thing. I would like to rid my self of this headache.

I had my website http://kurtnmarina.com built by another person that used .htm as the file extension instead of .html. Now since moving to BV when I make changes the extensions do not match the links so I come up with errors. I would like to pay someone to change everything to the .html format so that it does not show errors and broken links. Is this a project of interest to anyone?
    Thanks
