    Question Filemanager confuses me

    Hi everyone !

Ive got my website www.e-promenade.de running 4 quite a while now and ive just decided to give it a new look, so i deleted all the old files and started off from scratch !
When i upload my indexpage everything is fine !
But when i upload my second page i tryed to do this in a new folder so that i dont have to many files in the public_html itsself to keep it organized !
So when i publish it will go to public_html/united.html
But when i go on the internet i get index of / united.html
So i tryed it without the html
    Dident work either

    I dont understand why !
I did it exactly the same way before cPanel was changed and it worked fine !

But since the changes im having real trouble !

please does anyone know what im doing wrong !!??!!

    GREETZ

you would only include the /united at the end if you have an add on domain. you can put your images in one file, media in another and your pages in another file but they will all be part of the main website which is in your public_html directory.
    hope this helps

    Question Re: Filemanager confuses me

no sorry but not realy ! i havent got a clue !

But i dont want to make it as complicated as that, that is exactly what im trying to avoid spreading everything all in different folders and mixing things from different pages up !
What i wish to do is the exact same as before, which means to make a new folder for each single page keeping it nice and tidy so that 4 example i can delete a page i dont want anymore by simply deleting the folder its in without having to search 4 the files of that page because they r mixed up with all the others !

    It always worked before !

    I dont know what subdomains r !
    Never had them before !

    Greetz !

    Cool Re: Filemanager confuses me

thx 4 ur replies but they dont realy help me !
I have gaot an indexpage, u can c it at www.e-promenade.de the problem is that i cant link to the second page www.e-promenade.de/united.html
I have tryed to create a subdomain in cPanel but it works out just the same as if i create the folder in file manager !

I have looked in several threads in the forum to find an answer but dident have any luck one person wrote in one of those threads that there is no point in creating new folders unless u have a lot of images 4 example !

But i need to do this as my website is based on images, if i put them all in one folder it will get chaotic after a while !

What i still dont understand is y it worked before but not with the new cPanel ???!!

If i link to my page i get the indexpage but if i click on the link www.e-promenade.de/united.html which is called enter low on my website it always goes to the index of united.html

I must admit i am an absolout novice at this kind of stuff and the problem is that i only have time to work on my site at the weekend as i work abroad a lot, can anyone plz give some detailed help so i can get this sorted !?!

I would be very very greatfull !

Greetz and have a nice sunday !

Not sure if you are listening to anyone trying to help you?

Stop thinking about creating sub domains, folders, or anything else and concentrate on making pages.

You already have a page called index.

Now make a page called 'united' and publish it exactly the same as you did for the index page. don't change the folder, just publish to public_html

    Do this for every page.

There is no need at all to create folders in your CP, in fact your best bet is to stay out of your cp until you have finished your website.
Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.

    Hi
You cannot find your second page in your second folder because its named
    http://www.e-promenade.de/united.html
if you rename it and save it as
    index
    then the link will be
    http://www.e-promenade.de/2ndfoldername

EVERY folder in your public_html directory should have an
    index
    page

If you want to keep the page name the same as your folder name
    then simply publish a blank
    index
    page
to each folder and then the link would be
    http://www.e-promenade.de/foldeunited/foldeunited.html

and you would publish the above example to
    public_html/foldeunited

The idea of the separate folders is to keep page contents separate from the main directory.......................

and it's just confusing this guy even more. For someone who admits he hasn't got a clue, I just think he is making life too hard for himself.

I also don't see why each folder needs it's own index page. This is not true David. I have many sites with folders and pages within those folders. Never had an index file with them.

Here is the page that you are looking for:

    http://www.e-promenade.de/united.html/united.html

and at the moment everything in the folder(united.html)
    can be downloaded by everyone.......

delete that folder now............then create a new folder called united.....publish a blank index page
then reload the united page and you will be OK.

What do you mean by steal? the pages are for public viewing.

Red face Re: Filemanager confuses me

    Hi !
OK guys thx 4 ur help but plz dont argue ! ;)

YES i am very confused ! admited ! but that is mainly because as i said before..... it worked before !!!! NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM !

As 4 now i have put it all into public_html so u can see my website as it is ( www.e-promenade.de ) now if u imagine that this only the examplepage as 4 the time being untill i get round to more during my holliday then imagine the amount of images and other files in public_html when i get finished ( if ever ), and then imagine the amount of time and work deleeting pages images and files if i have them all in 1 single folder now to be honest that is more confusing to a novice than getting things organized from the start !

I realy apreciate ur help and i am listening !! but i hope u can understand y im trying to do it this way !

the other thing is thx 4 that too but again i dident hve to create index files before all i did was create the page in bv then create folder in cp then uplaod and everything worked fine !!

    1) create a folder called whatever
    2) create a page called whatever
    3) save the page to public_html/whatever
    4) link to html://http://www.e-promenade.de/whatever/whatever.html

your done(replace whatever with the appropiate name of your folders and files.

    .................................................. ................................................

Last piece of advice re the index pages
    :
without that index page in each folder dont bother trying to sell anything on your website as anyone has access and can download the whole folder contents.

p.s. I am only trying to help you, and ramsey and I are old friends.............
