    Default saving pages as PHP

Hi, I'm trying to follow the instructions for "one menu common to all pages" but I'm falling at the first hurdle! The first thing to do per the instructions is to save a master page as a PHP but I do not have the option when I save as, it's either a BVP extention or *all files*, if I choose all files and manually attach the php extention it is not recognised. I have also set the page properties to php but that doesn't help either. I'm sure there is a very easy answer to this but I've spend the best part of 2 hours looking through the forums to no avail. if someone could help I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks

    Nikola
