Thread: publishing question

Okay... lets start at the beginning. I recently switched my hosting to Voda and now, my website looks like this www.lighthouseofdexter.org this is my temp site url I was provided with http://75.126.104.131/~lighthou/ . Obviously, I have to do something to get my site to actually show up as it was. I have already changed the name servers to point at bluevoda. What am I supposed to do now?

Create your 1st page & name it index in all lower case letters & save. Then press publish. This will be your home page.

are you telling me that the website I had is now gone forever? I had a website I simply wanted to redesign. Am I now starting from scratch?

Ah! Did you have a website with another server & what was this site built with? I am assuming you have the files for your old site on your computer? If so! these need uploading to your public_html directory.

okay, here is where I suppose things get complicated. I have just recently taken over this site. I did not build the previous site but know it was built in Adobe Contribute. Do I need to cross my fingers someone has saved copies of the pages?

Yes! if you cant access the old server that the files were on to make copy's.

you mean my old host? would any of the files be in the registrar or any other place I could possibly look?

Assuming you still have access to the old server & have not asked them to close the account, all the files will still be there. You might find the old host has a back up? but wouldn't hold a lot of hope of them finding it for you, if your leaving them.
