Thread: What are the benefits of Subdomains?

I really don't know what subdomains are for. Can someone please explain why people use them and what are the benefits of using them?

My domain: www.mypage.com

My subdomain: www.support.mypage.com

Why not use www.mypage.com/support.php?

What's the difference?

There are many reasons, but not many are so applicable these days. But sub domains are still handy for splitting a site into departments. If you had a family with the name smith, you could have www.john.smith.com, www.kate.smith.com & so on. You could then set up that john could only upload to his folder & not be able to upload to Kate's. Now this could be the same for a department store.
