Cool Am I over doing it?

HI,

i am trying to understand seo and have built this site www.naturalreikischool.co.uk and have added elements so that I can add tags to them for the search engines. Can I over do this? My thinking is that as long as the tags fit the page and the site loads quickly enough it has to help??

Any feedback is helpful,

many thanks

dave

Well, yes and no. Remember that those tags are for specific reasons -and misusing them can hurt you.

If you are adding alt tags to pictures, those tags should relate directly to the picture - NOT be there just for the se's - but for the purpose they are intended, and that's to tell the person who can't see the picture what they are missing. If that can include your keywords, great. But you also don't want it to be sentences with extraneous words - no need for that.

Remember, first and foremost, you build the site for the end user - and if you do it properly, that will be doing it for the se's also. Where you need to learn things is the proper formatting, etc. Things you are missing are headlines on your pages - so you might want to look into that.

Have you looked at the ebook in my signature?

HI Bethers,

just downloaded the book and will check the site in relation to it. Another quick question about the pictures. Is it helpful to name them in line line with the page they are on? for instance. If I have a picture of the book about reiki, is it best to save the picture as reiki book cover? or does that not have any impact?

thanks dave

No - that doesn't matter - at least not how you've described it here. And saying book cover doesn't make sense either - the title of that picture probably can be the name of the book no matter what page it's on or if that picture links to purchase the book, you'll want the tag to say something like "Buy Reiki book".

AM I OVERDOING IT attracted me to this thread. I'm listing products to sell from vodahost and this is what I'm doing... added a photo, placed a rectangle shape on top, then wrote about the product. Underneath I've added the paypal buynow, add to cart buttons. Visually it looks great... however I ran into a major issue and simply have no idea how to work it out.

I've listed 8 photo's (with the layers on top) vertically... when I re-arranged one, I previewed the final look and now have the text of the fourth pic approx 10cms below and to the right of the original layers. The other four photo's are listed below the misplaced text. What have I done and how do I fix it?

Also any suggestions with an easy way to format these pics is appreciated. Thanks, Dale.

Hi Chris, I changed one section on the page and that's fixed it... there must have been a formula imbedded in one of the photo's. Thanks for your help.

Question Re: Am I over doing it?

sure thing, I've added it to my signature which isn't showing on my posts so I keep forgetting to add the link... BTW, how do I add my signature?

MAD - you kind of hijacked someone else's thread here. Not a good thing to do - but since he already received his answer, going to leave this.
