Thread: Using Soholaunch and BV

I have a number of websites that have been done with Blue Voda.

I'm going to be building another site for my church (add-on domain) and it looks like Soholaunch would be a better choice because I know they want to be able to do a calendar and other things that Soholaunch offers.

My questions are . . . can I use Soholaunch for just this new site?

Is this difficult to use with an add-on domain?

Yes.. you can use soho.. just make the addon.. and run the install to that addon.

Thanks for the quick response Karen. Do you think Soho would be the best of the two for me to use for the church site? I don't know what the "learning curve" is on that program. I've pretty much got a handle on BV now.

Well.. I dont know .. Soho is pretty much point and click..and pretty easy to get a grasp on once you make your way around the admin panel...and a little reading. You can allow even members to use the calendar in soho if you want..

It just depends on how many of the features you will be wanting to use.. and allowing others to use..you can have more than one admin login.. and they can put up their own pages etc...Try it..and if you dont like it you can always uninstall and do something else.

Sidenote... if this is the church site.. they need to buy their own vodahost account.. TOS calls it reselling if they own the site but you own the hosting and they dont allow you to do that.

I am the owner of the church domain name, and I'm donating my time to build and maintain the site for them, so nothing is being resold.

Just one more quick Soho question . . . I know I can only have one Soholaunch download per account. If I attach it to a domain, and then don't like it, can I uninstall it and perhaps use it with another domain?

Yes. And you know, quite frankly, now that Soholaunch has been added to Fantastico (instead of loading per request), I am not sure that you cannot have multiple installations per account -- but just one per domain. You should experiment to see if you can add Soho to another add-on just for the heck of it....I would! (The logic being that accounts can have unlimited databases, but each domain/directory only one script with an "index")

Its always been in fantastico as long as ive been at voda host.. and its a licensed product.. so if you installed it again youd have to pay for it. Thats why it is and always been.. one per HOSTING account. The only way to install it again is to BUY it and install it yourself.. but.. then again you can only have one dedicated ip and if you run it with a merchant account... you cant do that. Expensive to run it that way and then just use paypal.. IMO
