Hi Everybody,

First off I would like to thank-you Race for suggesting to create a forum through fantastico, I downloaded it and have it up and I can access the admin. Great!

The "skins link" in the other thread "Customizing your Forum" are like a treasure chest.......lol Thanks Aliens for posting that, it was just what I was looking for.

The video tutorials are great as well. So I am definately learning, I did all this by myself. So that's pretty good for me.

I have a question when choosing a skin for my forum, will I be able to customize the top part and create a new logo? If so, how would I go about doing this?

Also, when choosing a "theme" would it be unwise to use a dark colored forum? Do people find this hard on the eyes? Also, am I able to change some of the color schemes on the set chosen forum?

One last question, would I download all the avitars and smilies when creating a new forum or can I wait to do this after or does it matter?

Oh yes, I forgot just one more question, some skins are narrower than others, and I see on some forums they have added different things to the sides of their forums, so if I want to add additions to the side (s) of my forum, I should pick a narrower forum board? Would this be correct?

Answer 1 / yes in the templates/images find file logo_phpBB.gif make a gif file the same size save as logo_phpBB.gif and upload in to same folder.

Answer 2/a:That's down to you, i prefer dark themed myself.
/b: Yes but unless you know what your doing i would not advise it.

Answer 3/ You can install Avatars and Similes when every you want. in to forum/images/ avatars or smilies folders.

Answer 4/ No, as all mods are designed around the subSilver template which is full screen, the narrow ones trend to give problems when install mods, but not terminal

As to the size of the forum - I have no idea on this one, but I go to quite a few of them that run adsense or yahoo ads down one side. Since I have never put one together, I don't know if the skin you select would effect being able to do that.

Thanks Aliens for taking the time to answer my questions, you too Beth. The skin I actually like is in the Seasonal Category - The Halloween one. The file says it is corrupt, so I should move on to the next choice, as there is probably no way to fix it? Correct?

Hi Aliens, I am adding a new link from the link you posted in the other thread as a few files were corrupted and when I went on the support form from your link, and I was able to download an uncorrupted skin. Hope you do not mind, I wasn't sure where to post the new link.

By the looks of them they are all graphics, you will find them in the templates/images folder of the skin, just look for the images that you want to change, then make a image the same size the way you want it ( make sure to get the boarder colour as close as poss ) then save using the same name as the one you want to replace. then upload in to the right folder.

the easier ones to do would be the guildwars aa

but if you want to add one open overall_header.tpl found in the templates folder.

I have a few questions:

1. When uploading "Rank Images" to my forum it is asking for the (Relative to phpBB2 root path): after I type in all the info required, and refresh my browser, the rank image is showing a little white box with a red x. What am I doing wrong?

2. When changing the style width of the forum template, where do I put the code?

Hi Everybody,

I found the info on the ranks and how to install them properly, thought I would share this with you.

To Install Rank Images, You need to do a couple of things:

1. First, you must acquire the rank images, you can download some at: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/catdb.php?db=2

2. Then, Using your Blue Ftp Manager or an Ftp Program Such as Smart FTP, login to your server

3. Go to the directory that you have phpBB installed in, and go into the images/directory

4. Inside that directory, create a new directory/folder called ranks

5. Using the rank images you downloaded & unzipped, drag or copy them into the ranks directory you have created

6. Login to your phpBB Board, and go to the admin panel

7. Go to user admin, Ranks

8. Fill in the appropriate information

9. For the image path put images/ranks/thenameoftherank.gif, .jpg, or .png

with no slash at the beginning of the image path

If they still do not work, make sure you have the permissions on the images/ranks directory set right, to 666 or 777

I spoke too soon about the ranks......lol I have the ranks and they work in the admin panel, I can see each one, however, they are not showing up on the user/member, under their post. I still have the box with the x, I must be missing something here. Does anybody have any suggestions?

try putting the rank image straight into the images folder on your forum then link to them like this.
http://boardroom11.net/forum/images/g_rankadmin.gif and so on i think you find that will do the trick.
