i would like to lern about adding mods and upgrades but do not want to use my site to do this. I need a testing site but not sure how to go about it. I have phpbb3 for my forums but would like to use a version 3 testing site.

    Hiya!

I think it's a simple as setting up a new forum in a new sub directory. Just like you did with your original one but in a new sub dir. Don't divulge its location to anyone and you have yourself a test site. If you want to test on a site with posts etc ... then you'll need to copy your existing database and import it to the new forum. You can do this through phpmyAdmin which is accessible through your control panel >mySQL databases then scroll down to the bottom and you'll see a link for phpMyAdmin. I think!

I will ask Alien to check this and correct any errors but he isn't around just now so it'll be later.

I come from a vBulletin background which is why I am not 100% certain.

On the hole Amanda u r correct. just manually install into a folder that has a different name to the first forum, also making a database with different name then just install using the same method as your first forum.
