Where to put rank images?

Having trouble figuring this out. I have images I would like to use with rankings in phpbb currently in a desktop folder. Where do I put them and how would I access them in rank administration?

Go into your Admin Panel and scroll all the way to the bottom to 'Ranks'. Click that, create the rank(s) and create a link to the images. For instance, say the folder you have on your desktop is called ranks. Upload it to your forum's root and then the url will be yourdomain.com/forum/ranks/name_of_image.jpg or .gif

Let me know if that's not clear enough and I'll break it down more.

No worries, open BlueFTP (in BlueVoda, tools>ftp manager) or whatever ftp program you use and log into your server with the same username, password and IP address you use to publish.

You should see two windows open. On the server side (usually the right side), navigate to public_html/forum (with forum being whatever you've named it) - if you use BlueFTP for this, it automatically opens public_html, so you just have to find forum.

On the desktop side (usually the left side), navigate to the folder where your images are stored, click it once (don't open it) and then find the 'copy to' button at the top of your screen - with some programs, the 'copy to' button is simply an arrow pointing to the other side of the screen. Click that, watch the files fly through the air with the greatest of ease and once they're finished your images have been uploaded.

Then I go and create a new rank, like "private". That's easy. But then how do I get the pictures that I have upload to match with "private"?

It says:"Rank Image (Relative to phpBB2 root path):
Use this to define a small image associated with the rank"

What do I write on the blank box in front of this message?

Check where you placed the uploaded rank images (should be in the images folder in the subsilver template if thats the template you are using) and you will enter something similar to this:
"http://www.nzbrtours.com/forum/templ...nk/private.gif"

in the blank box.

Sorry... for tiediness it should be in the template/images/rank folder. It really doesn't matter where the rank picture is, just enter it's full path and away you go.(http://www.nzbrtours.com/.../private.gif

Thanks for the help, but I still can't do it. (hv been trying for hours!)
Maybe it was how I upload the file from my desktop to ftp.?

I'm writing as you said (and in 1000 different ways!) but the picture never comes up. Instead I have that small logo. When I right click on it and go in properties, thats what it says about the location of the picture:

Something is wrong, isn't it?

Here is what I did step by step:

-went to control panel (in one of my pages) to open the ftp
-located my folder, which is in my desktop
-got the conection
-the right side opens up and I see a folder caled "forum" (the name of my forum)
-then i go back to left side and click once (don't open it) on "ranks"
-go to the to of the page and click in "Copy to" (beside the 'delet sign')
-comes up a window like that: COPY: ranks
To: ftp://75.126.10.7/public_html
-I click ok and wait for the files to go

Are they going to my folder "forum", or, as you said, it does'nt matter as long as they are there in the public_html?


After doing all that I go back to my forum:

- all the way down to rank to 'edit' the ranks I put there, and have the images for: private, corporal, colonel,etc....
Rank Title: private
Set as Special Rank: NO
Minimum posts: 1
"Rank Image (Relative to phpBB2 root path):
Use this to define a small image associated with the rank":
Now comes the problem:

I write: http://www.nzbrtours.com/forum/ranks/private.gif

What else can I do?

I'm not hundreds on where your picture is, so to check on the full path go back to CP file manager and find the picture. Double click on it's name>> on the top right you'll now see an address for the file http://... right click >>copy >>and dump this info into the forum rank root area. Change the pictures permissions while you are there to open 777. (file manager)

This should do it

If you are worried about the success of your upload, before you copy the pictures full path. Click on 'show file contents' this will show you the file.

The CP (control panel) is on the right of the bottom nav bar of BV program.

got some of it:

found the cp in blue voda
found the picture
right click and on the top right is the ad: http://www.nzbrtours.com/ranks/private.gif

permission was 6 6 6
then I clicked in Execute and the numbers changed to 7 7 7.
Shall I do that to all my rank pictures (corporal, major,colonel.....)?

Open CP>>file manager
click on public_html (the folder icon and not name)
click on forum (the folder icon and not name)
click on templates (the folder icon)
click on subsilver (the folder icon)
click on images (folder)
click on rank (folder)
click on Upload file(s)
click browse>>find each file on your desktop (my documents or where ever you saved them to) repeat this process with all your rank picture files>>upload
click on "private.gif" (the name this time) or what ever the file is called and change permissions to 755 (this is top right of screen)
highlight and right click copy the file url: which is going to be something like this: http://www.nzbr.com/forum/templates/subSilver/images/rank/private.gif

Paste this to the root request area in forum>>admin>>rank etc which you know already.

When I right click on the link http://www.nzbrtours......private.gif
the only option I have is "copy link location". If i do that I can't take it to the other side (left side) and paste it in the 'forum' folder

No No, right click and copy shortcut http://www.nzbrtours.com/ranks/private.gif then go to admin panel in your forum to the rank area then to edit and paste it into the rank image block

ok. I'm doing it step by step.
ok till click on images
when u ask me to click on "ranks"...it's not there the folder!

when I go all the way back (up none level, up one level,etc.)
I find the "ranks" folder as in an other folder (outside "forum"):

I see folders of: cgi-bin
forum
ranks
create new file
etc
etc

Go to your forum admin panel >>in rank edit >>type from scratch http://www.nzbrtours.com/ranks/private.gif and then repreat this in all your rank image blocks eg the next rank will be http://www.nzbrtours.com/ranks/major.gif or what ever your next rank is.

I have done it and nothing.

maybe there's something blocking th epictures to come up.

When I edit it shows:

Any last thoughts..lol beacause I'm about to give up.

I have just tested your "major" rank http://www.nzbrtours.com/ranks/major.gif in my forum and it is operational follow the last post only and you are one step away.

I'll check on your "ranked forum" later, but it is now 5:45am in South Africa

I get a red x in the admin panel with my ranks, but if I go to a person who has lets say 1 post I can see his rank within the actual forum. So check first before deciding it's not working...

I was expecting to see the pictures when I edit the ranks (after puting the adres:. http:......private.gif)Note there.
But when I go to the forum... It's there! Finally!!
