Can't log into admin panel of phpbb

Hi,

I hv installed phpbb through cpanel. I can go into the created forum BUT i cannot log in as an adminstrator using the username and pw created. Anyone encountered this problem before and has a solution to it?

Dear Race,

It just won't let me access the forum at all. It keeps refreshing the login panel asking me to enter my username n pw over and over again.

You're experiencing a cookie issue, and you just need to go get this to fix it: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=228741

It's pretty simple, even for someone not familiar with phpBB, just follow the instructions completely.

I hv tried it, the phpbb support team also recommended it. But still it cannot wrk.

Is IE7 causing the problem? IE7 i heard has Iframe problem rt?

Any other recommended Forum softwares...freee one beside phpbb ha-ha.

I hv uninstalled the phpbb2 so i can't display any url.

I hv managed to login into the corrupted admin panel after several continuously keying-in of my username & pw.

Attached is a file i hv saved yesterday, inside this you can see that a very funny "split-screen" scenario. The left panel & right panel inside the admin panel page just does not tally.

From the phpbb forum, i realised that this is a common problems for some. I think this cannot log-in problem is a serious bug that phpbb has to solve.

By what i can see on that it look like you were missing a load of files in the admin folder / when you installed the forum did you install into main domain or a sub domain,

I hv installed into the public folder. The Fantastico created a forum folder for me...all files should be inside.

Any troubleshootimg solution?

Just reinstall, it looks like it corrupted somehow during your initial install. If you reinstall and have the same problems, that will narrow it down a little.

Thinking of switching to Vbulletin, any idea this program has such similar problem of unable user to log into admin panel?

vBulletin is FAR superior to phpBB in every single aspect, but it doesn't necessarily mean you won't see cookie issues - these are common with .php based forums. I've run phpBB forums and now have a vBulletin forum and I can't say that I've seen much of a difference between the two when it comes to things like this.

During these instances of installing, reinstalling, etc., have you deleted your browser's cookies in the process? That should be the absolute first step whenever you have problems logging into any program. Follow that with deleting Temporary Internet Files.

If you have the money, go with vBulletin - it's awesome. You can click here to see what Amanda and I have done with our vBulletin forum. Everything you see can be done with a phpBB forum, but what would take hours or even days with phpBB takes minutes with vB.

Dear All:

I am a new user of phpBB. Just installed the bulletin forum.

I have the exact problem with logging in. When I first set up the admin account, I was able to login. After a day or two, when I tried to log in, the same login just refreshed itself and nothing happened. Same thing happened to the 'register' new user screen.

I tried downloading the above auto_cookies php file I ran the cookie.php file. When I tried to complete the last step to send the setting to the database, I got a 404 page error. The "write these settings to database" button points to a page that is non-existent.

Is this cookie fix still working, or did I do something wrong?

Otherwise, are there any other solutions to fix the login/register failure problem?

I had this same problem recently but it only seemed to happen when using the top login box, Did you try logging in using the bottom login box as this appeared to work for me. Also if you have forgotten your admin password then this toolkit will help you to reset without having to reinstall the whole forum losing all of your posts.
