I'm trying to convert my current 2.022 to 3.0 I installed the 3.0 version through fantastico in my CP. Installation was successful it says, but when I go to the new board, before I even tried the conversion process, I see the following message at the bottom of the new board page: (I x'd out my login info) Fatal error: ./cache/ is NOT writable. in /home/xxxxxxxx/public_html/phpbb3/includes/acm/acm_file.php on line 103 Any advice would be appreciated! |

Update: I got the conversion completed, and everything transferred properly, but I'm not able to enable the board, or make many other changes because when I press the submit button after making a change, I get a page with that same fatal error message. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone...Buehler...Anyone? |

Hi General, Thanks for the response...I finally got it all figured out. Now I just need to know how to change the directory name from "phpbb3" to "forum" (where my old one is located) so that users see the new forum when they try to access it. Any help is again appreciated. |

From your phpbb3 forum using ftp manager download and store in safe place were you can find it later. the file config.php, then depending on how you installed your phpbb2 forum. if installed though fantastico then i would advise saving the database first then uninstalling. if you installed yourself then just delet all the folders and files within the forum folder, then once the folder is empty upload the folders and files for the phpbb3 once you have finished uploading and checked that all folders and files have been upload, then find the config.php you downloaded earlier and uploaded in to the same place in new folder. check in your browser you should now have two forums, the one named forum and the phpbb named one check everything is ok, once your happy you can delete the phpbb3 but only the folder in the ftp manger not the database.

Hi Alien, Thank you very much for the reply. I just want to make sure I understand you. I did install both forums through fantastico. So first do I download and save ONLY the config.php file from phpbb3? Then I understand i should back up the database from the phbb2 forum then how would I uninstall it without deleting the folder? I understand about moving all the files and folders then from phbb3 to the old folder. Sorry for what probably seem like dumb questions...but I'm new at this :) Thanks again for the assistance. |

Yes only the phpbb3 one. yes back the database from the phpbb2 ( this is so if anything does go wrong you have the original to fall back on might me a idea to download the config file for that as well but keep separate from the other one. when you uninstall it will remove the folder. just open your ftp manager and make a new one with the same name as the old then upload the files into that. you can download a freash set of files from here at phpBB.com it will be quicker than downloading then uploading from your server. if you have any trouble just shout. |

Just wanted to say thank you very much for your help Alien. Everything went fine and works great! This was a really good learning experience for me. I really like this version much better than the 2.022 One quick question when you have a chance. I have allowed attachments to be posted. Is there anywhere in my ACP that I can view and manage ALL attachments posted to the board in one place? Thanks again for all the help! |
