Default Losing the war in my forum....

Hi,

I'm about to give up..I have to delete about 50 new members every day! These 'people' (spams) do the registration to promote their porn websites, etc.
I have tried to download 'forum mass delete' and install it but I simply don't know how to do it. This would make my life 1000 times easier.
What I'm thinking now is to block new people to register. Only me as the forum Adm would be able to do it. My idea:

1) In my tours I get the passengers emails add. I would do the registration and email them the username and password.
2) New people visiting the site who are really interested in posting something would email me - I hope so!

So anyone can tell me how do I block people form registering in the first place?

Many thanks in advance and hope to hear from any of you as soon as possible (any day that goes by I have 50 more to delete....)

I don't know what forum script you are using, some have captcha built in.

But if you go to their website or do a google search, you can find better captcha's, humanizers, etc...

That is why I personally have no public forums.....all mine are in "protected areas" and are used for Client Support only, with Whitepapers, viedos, articles, troubleshooting steps, documents, forms, etc. posted as a "resource" or an organized, rich "knowledgebase" for online viewing or downloading from.

>> When an "event" IS scheduled, a specially created sub-forum is put up to serve as a "live" forum for previously registered participants feedback and contributions.

I personally approach Blogs the same way, and prefer to restrict everyone at the first possible classificaton - to the lowest permission: I "approve" all registrations personally, and then only allow permissions to vote in polls, but not post comments or replies to my "published articles" >>> as a free-standing website or included in a CMS site, blogs are a great way to develop rich Content metrics and SE value, but like a forum, they can be an administrative nightmare if allowed to be truly open to the public, even with the captcha and all......

Is there no other solution?

IMO

Thanks a lot to you all!

Would you be able to teach me step by step what I should do?
That's what I have done so far:

1) went to the site you recommended (liked the idea of the question: "are you human"). This should stop them. So I've decided to go for this one.

2) have clicked on 'download' (it took 1 sec only - right?)

3) then I have a zip thing in my desktop. have clicked on it, 'extract' and then a folder comes up in my desktop.

What do I do next? How do I 'put' this in my forum? Simple questions, I know, but quite hard for me with little experience.

Waiting for your reply and..thanks again!

You should know by now how to find solutions in the forums, though, right?

Thanks Vasili,

I was checking the posts (link you gave me) and it seems to be hard for someone with minimal (not to say zero) experience in doing that. In one of the posts someone recommended the use of AliensAnonymous. I would then pay for him to help me putting the question ("are you human?")in my forum. The thing is that his website is not up at the moment ('site under construction') and I couldn't get his email. Any idea how to contact him or anyone else?

Thanks again,

If you email me at DesignTeam @ ProWebsUnlimited.com I will forward it to him at his personal email, as he is pretty much on a hiatus from his other "mailboxes" but still taking jobs.
He is the utmost of professionals, and incredibly affordable!

Thanks. I've just got an email (an automatic one, I believe) acknowledging that you got my email. Have you sent anything else?
What I need, I guess is simple (for you, not for me l0l) is the sentence " Are you human" "Yes" , "No" option. This will stop them registering. If not, please let me know what you can come up with. I'm sick of logging in about 5 times a day to delete these 'people'!!

Here is the forum ad: http://www.nzbrtours.com/forum/

Hope to hear from you soon and many thanks in advance!

Hi guys,

I'm back here to thank Vasili for indicating the Aliendude to help me with the forum. And, of course, the Aliendude himself for the great job he did! The phpBB3 it's a big improvement when compared to phpBB2, with much more features in it. I do recommend it!

If anyone wishes to have a look at it.....

Hi Dave,

It does benefit your business having an active forum in your site - in many ways.
I can tell you that the question "Are you human?" has not stopped a lot of spammers as you said, it has stopped all of them!

I do recommend it! For what I know, it can be a bit tricky to set it up. That's why I got Aliensdude's help. He was great and I would recommend him without hesitate. Just go in his site and email him if you don't know how to do it.

Cheers,
