Different forum program

Hi, My website is http://www.browns-gas.info.

I have previously installed one of the included forum programs but was wondering if it is possible to install another GNU forum program such as SMF (Simple Machines Forum)

Yes.. that one is included in fantastico for easy install.

Hi Karen,

I was just going to install SMF but noticed that it was version 1.1.5 in fantastico. I have downloaded the latest version (1.1.6). Is there any way of installing that one within cpanel or will I have to do a manual install?

You would have to do a manual install.. or install then manual update. Not sure how that forum works as I havent ever used it. Sorry.

May I ask where you found an SMF forum in fantastico? The only one I see in mine is phpbb.

I dont know.. its in mine.. I dont remember exactly where. I would assume right next to the phpbb. If its NOT in yours you can install it yourself. Could be I have an older cpanel and server than you do.

The only option I have under "discussion boards" in my cpanel is phpbb.

From what I remember not all servers have the same configuration for fantastico (perhaps just not all running the same up to date version), you may or may not have smf available for installation (also, just to avoid confusion, you are not downloading anything from fantastico, your are installing a copy of the script onto your account)
