Default Problems after upgrade

Each time I upgrade my forum I lose all the avatars and need to reinstate them for everyone. This is a huge pain, and will get worse as I get more members.

Can anyone suggest a cure?

Cheers

Are these avatars the members have uploaded or ones you have stored on the site?

Can't understand that David - no one else has said anything, and I view it on a couple of PCs. Can you think of a reason? What can you see? Any chance of sending me a screen shot?

Its posible that my wi fi cant handle all of your home page at once,
so I tended to ignore it.
I will send you 2 screenshots as I lose your header and continue with the rest of your page.....

edit: Ooppss, you just made me Captain......

Are they stored in the default avatar directory (Forum > Images > Avatars > Gallery)?

No - I've checked. I uploaded them from my PC. Is this the problem?

Most likely, although it still seems a little odd. I'd try putting them into the directory and see if that helps next time phpBB comes out with an upgrade.

Cheers Racefan - will try that. It is a pain as you can imagine! Actually I just checked and the photo you uploaded has gone too! Surely this isn't normal? (I am assuming that the way you would have done it would have been the correct way!)

Thanks for the advice anyway. They don't upgrade too often do they?????

Sorry, Trish, I missed this post. No that's not normal at all. When you upgrade, what steps do you take? It sounds like you're inadvertently affecting your database.

phpBB upgrades on average once every three or four months.

I click on the upgrade link on Fantastico and it does it itself (forgive the non tech parlance!)

Every 3 or 4 months? I really must sort this out! Don't want to do anything to affect the entries I already have though.

Can you suggest anything? Sorry to be a pain!

I have just looked at the forum again to load up the avatars and find my gallery avatars have completely disappeared too! I'm sure I've done something daft, but would love to know what!

Are you sure there were any there to begin with? None come with the forum, so the only way any would have been there is if you'd put them there.

Next time, before you do an upgrade, do a database backup and save it to your pc.
