Default wish to lock the "register" option

a quick question and hope one of you can help me -

i have a phpbb discussion board and want to keep the membership as it is, around 50 people, but many many people keep signing on and trying to join in the private discussions and i have to keep deleting them.

1) is there a way to lock the register option from people to join the forum?

2) is there a way to make the discussion board private - and only viewable by registered users?

thanks in advance - hope someone can help!!!

Sorry - just read "how to ask for assistance" notes:

1) my name is Ben Joplin
2) my phpbb website is www.bostonfriars.com

3) I wish to have the option of locking the "register" button so that i can control who signs on to board.

4) How can I make the board "private" and viewable by registered users only?

Thank you very much for any help you can provide!

The only way I know is to manage who joins. Go to your Admin Panel > General Admin > Configuration > Enable Account Activation > set to Admin. This means that you have to okay anyone that joins before they can access your forum to post. They can still read the posts though. If you don't want them you just refuse their membership.
