Default Menu items

Hi all -

Domain is procarechiropractic.us. Site has about 60 pages, 59 unpublished. Each page has about 15 left-menu buttons, 10-15 hyperlinks min.

Each page originally was the home page, but saved under a different name. Then text and images were changed to fit the specific page.

Went back to the home page: fianlized all menu elements and links, grouped them, copied. I then went to each page, deleted the original menu elements, and pasted in the new menu. I did the same for the elements for linking on the right side of the page.

But the published home page...left menu all messed up. Button text totally different from those showing on my desktop. There is duplication of one line of text into each menu button. In some cases this is superimposed on the correct menu text. The right menu entries, images with links, are fine, even though they were created the same way as the ones on the left.

A previous ticket suggested the problems was cutting and pasting, and suggested I use the source home page as a template and enter each link item individually. Problem is, there would be close to 1000 hyperlinks I would have to re-type, by hand.

There MUST be a better way!! Has to be!!

Also - I tried saving the home page as a template, and then published it. What you see on my site is the published template page: no different than the mess that was there before. It is NOT what I see on my desktop.

Can anyone help?

Hi DrBruce,

Save yourself a lot of problems and rework. Take a look at this post by Naveldesign how to create a single menu that if you make changes it reflects on all pages. I have used it on both my current sites.

Hi Tom -

Thanks for the tip. I followed the link and went through the steps. Had a problem, though...not sure if you can help, but the original post is quite old.

I published the menu page and one additional page with the HTML box. When I open the main page, I get this error message

"Warning: include(menu.html) [function.include]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/nmngorfw/public_html/index.php on line 92"

All the pieces and the menu.php are in the public_html folder.

It "worked" once, except that, then, the fonts were different, and the bubbles and background for the menu items didn't display. Now there's not even that in the menu spot.

Tips/aid?

You must publish the pages as php and not html. Have you done that? Right-click on the page in BV and select Page properties. In the General tab change the file extention to php. Publish again and see if it works.

I see your index page is up and running well now and it is php. Great. Just a few hickups there with menu text over text something, but you will sort that out. Which other page have you done so we can test?

If you have published the menu page as html, then the include code should also have "menu.html" and not "menu.php"

Got it! It was an extension misfit. Thanks very much, everyone!

I will try, in a few minutes, to publish another page or two, and we can take a look and see if they work.

Also - my menu buttons were of different types. I was using the plain glass button and text for items with no hyperlink, menu bars for the others. I went through and made them all menu bars, and that seems to have fixed most things - including the loss of menu backgrounds and supporting text.

Is there anything I can do about loss of background on my top-menu bar?

Domain: procarechiropractic.us

I've had success getting the menu onto the page, and am using the tip for doing a top menu, also. Have published some additional pages

Ran into a new problem:

The menu's subitems/hyperlinks do not show on any page except the home page, named index.

Everything's the same - the HTML link to the menu [that works great on the home page], same positioning...but no drop-down links show up!

?????????

Never mind...some how or other they started working.

Sorry to bother y'all. But things are working out well, for the time being!

Thanks again.

Hello.

That problem that went away came back: The left menu's main subitems/hyperlinks do not show on any page except the home page, named index.

And the main links showing in the button don't work.

Everything's the same - the HTML link to the menu [which works great on the home page], same positioning, but...

This happens on the "About Chiropractic" and "Chiropractic for Kids" pages, among others.

Top menu drop-downs and hyperlinks work fine.

Can anyone help?
