Well, I opened an account yesterday and I'm up and....crawling. I opened 1 email account and even put it on my ******. I'm going to spend a day (or 2) watching tutorials. I'm writing down questions as I watch these. The tutorial are somewhat good but they don't answer questions like, what is MySQL and php and FTP? Do I need these? Are there other tutorials, or documentation, that explain these terms? I'm going to use Blue Voda (I think) to build my website. I won't be selling anything on this site. Do I need Soholaunch? Should I save it for another site that I might sell on? Not sure what it's for really. Important question- Once I start my website and publish it, do I always have to edit pages in Blue Voda? Do you know what I mean? I have Blue Voda on my laptop here at home, where I will do most of the work. But, what if I'm on a trip let's say, will I be able to edit my pages in Voda Host on another computer? Let's see. One more question for now. (you'll be sick of me before too long. :) I want to set up a blog. Do I do that now with Fantasico? Oh, one more...do I have to "Publish" from Blue Voda before Voda Host recognizes that I am using it? OK done! Thank you in advance. |

Google is a fantastic resource to learn about MySQL, etc. If you can't find a satisfactory answer in the tutorials or by searching this forum, try Google. Go with BV, not Soholaunch. BlueVoda pages must be published by BlueVoda. It's possible to do that with more than one computer, but the preparation for that is a bit of a learning curve. It's been discussed here, so you can search for the details. Choose WordPress from Fantastico. It will install the latest version for you. After that, join the WordPress forum to learn everything you need to know to get it where you want it. Not sure what your final question means. If you are able to publish via BV, you're good to go. |

Thanks Tom. So, if I download BV to my other laptop as well, both laptops will "see" the web pages I'm working on? How do I connect the two? Re: my last question. I signed up with Yahoo Business a couple of weeks ago. (I'm canceling now). They also have a site builder to download and they have an on site designer. Apparently you can't design and publish with both. If you design and publish your pages with the desktop builder one day, and then edit your pages the next day with the on site designer, your pages get all messed up. In other words, the 2 designers don't commincate well. Ok, I'm going to search for "Blue Voda on 2 computers". If anyone can answer, quicker than I can find it, please do. Thanks |

Pick one computer to design using Blue Voda and stick to it .... there is no such thing as "Blue Voda on 2 computers" -- you can have Blue Voda installed on each and share files, that's all. If absolutely necessary (for example, if a computer crashes and you need to continue using your BV files), you can "share" files between the 2 computers, but EVERYTHING must be precisely shared in order to fully utilize them efffectively: the main Blue Voda folder, every original folder from which you imported an image or object (every individual folder, for every individual image or object), etc in order to make sure the original Souce Path is maintained and you don't get those little "red 'X's" from time to time, and so on. It is not the easiest task, and for that reason alone it makes sense to simply backup your folders on an external drive just in case you have to migrate them to another computer. "Sharing" is an ardruous task to do on a regular basis, however, so that is why you should pick one computer to use primarily and stick to it, being mindful to back up your folders to an external archive! |

| .....& just to add - Oh, one more...do I have to "Publish" from Blue Voda before Voda Host recognizes that I am using it? We're all assuming you realise that you have to open an account with VodaHost before anything can be published. Have fun, david

You can publish to your account directly, freely, from any computer you wish (as mentioned in the discussion about "sharing files") as long as you have been issued a User Name and Password (which is emailed to everyone upon account setup). * Using Blue Voda and VodaHost accounts is a very simple process ... no need to complicate things or put the cart before the horse! Take steps one at a time without trying to see further down the road, lest you trip on a small stone just under your feet ...... Be sure you study all of the Tutorials for Blue Voda and whenever necessary the Control Panel also: every step is illustrated in them. The Forums are a great resource to assist you with particular challenges, but is not the place to ask for step-by-step instructions. |

Thanks guys. I'm learning. I kinda figured out I can only use 1 computer. But I can "practice" on another one. Yes I have opened an account and I have my user name and passwords.(should I be asking questions in a different forum since I'm not a "pre-sale?) I have been watching and reading, and watching and reading. Question about File Manager. The File Manager is pretty scary to me. Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a molehill so I have to relieve some stress and ask this question. Do I actually have to go into my file manager and add files and folders? Or, when I publish pages do they automatically go to the correct files and or folders? Is there any reason for me to go into my File Manager BEFORE I publish anything? Re: Blue Voda...If I play around with all the "bells" and "whistles", on several pages(to practice linking),and then I save this "pretend" site to play with later, will I be able to TOTALLY delete ALL the playing I did? Or will all the "practice" files (ex. pics, music, video) go to my file manager when I finally publish my REAL website pages? Is there a thread on working with files and folders? |
