Thread: When I grow up I want to be a....

When you were a little short-pants and still barely getting the grasp of school (let alone real life) what job did you want to do when you grew up?

I think I went through everything from TV presenter to Lorry driver to 'x' number of other boyish cool jobs LOL

I wanted to be a teacher as I thought it would be great to have lots of holidays!! Then I found out how hard teachers have to work on evenings and weekends - so I changed my mind!!

This applies to me...(I wasn't going to post, but...)

By fourth grade, I had read most of the books in the library, and then I found one on Pastuer, and how he innovated our perspectives on blood....that got me really fascinated with medicine, so much so I was determined to be not just a doctor, but a psychiatrist since they made a whole lot of money and had an easier schedule.

Then, I too, decided against adding seven years to my educational stretch. I found my gift and became a Special Ed teacher, and taught Autistic Elementary kids for a few years in Chicago. Then came the Army. Then...back into jewelry & Retail Management before a stint with Corporate Travel. Back to diamonds and Training, then eTail, and I've been deteriorating ever since......
Now I'm simply a cat with an ****** suit on trying to look cool despite being frazzled sleeping in in the alley next to the Forum!

I wanted to join the Air Force - but my father forbid me - so i showed him and got married and had kids at 18 - later in life after raising 5 boys as a stay at home mom i started to dislike kids and cooking so i went to work - doing what - i worked in school food service - cooking daily for 1500 kids - turned out to be okay though stayed with it for 20 years.

When I was in 1st Grade I wanted to be a 'Teacher'.. sounds noble enough..?? Well the reason is the funny bit, I liked a teacher and I wanted to date her, so I was hoping she'd still be there, still be young and still be at my school by the time I grew up, went to uni, became a teacher and got a job at our school.

I'm still trying to decide what I want to be when I eventually grow up!

Have been lucky in many ways to have worked at the one profession that I wanted to do since leaving school, (Electrical design & contracting) which for the most has been very rewarding & enjoyable. Apart from a 4/5 year gap in earlier years for some major travelling (which was life changing & fantastic) I am now fortunate enough to be semi-retired & able to devote as much time as permissible to annoying the Vodahost team & all you guys. You can let me know if I am successful? Nah! maybe not.

Hehehehehe I wish I was semi-retired. Working from home kind of feels that way, provides a lot of freedom but can also make a person very lazy sometimes.

I always wanted to be a truck driver (that's a semi to you USA guys)......

And I became one

I always wanted to drive a bus......

So I got a bus licence

I always wanted to teach people to drive.....

So I became a driving instructor

I ALWAYS wanted to be absolutely filthy rich!!!........

So how much do you think a truck driver earns??????

NO! I still have to work and its not quite as good as it sounds, but not the metric 10 days a week that I was working. I still have obligations to my last business & don’t think I would like to totally retire even if I was lucky enough to be placed in that position.

I can't work effectively from home....no matter how hard I tried or how much technology I had, I got very antsy and stressed.....
Let the dog out, the gardeners would be making too much noise, the doorbell, etc.... For me, it's simply easier to "dress" for work and go to an office to actually try to accomplish some work. Yeah, right! Now I pretty much delegate and talk on the phone all day! LOL

well when i was asked at 7 what i wanted to be i said a porn star miss and guess what...................im not one ............i dont know what i am yet but i still want to be a porn star

Its funny, we have a guy locally that had a type of log cabin built at the bottom of the garden for an office, but found it was too easy to pop back to the house. So his wife had a large fence installed across the garden & he has to go out the front door & walk round the block & up the service road at the rear of the property’s to get to his office. It worked.

Vasili... the points you make about working from home are all sooo true... Can't get away from these 12 cats and even during personal time it kind of feels like being at the office. A good example was working til 9pm on Christmas Eve last year or trying to relax to music that is on my PC or play a quick game of something... Still an in the office feeling but.... Beats having a boss looking over your shoulder all day.

Ahh ... I wanted sooooo much to be an Airborn Ranger, still wouldnt mind it. Though never served in any branch. Instead I took a big liking to using heavy equipment to create awesome beauty using the land as my canvas.

Brent.. I guess you will have to make do with the Airborne Ranger PS2 game instead. Go on, just pretend, it will be like the real thing I promise :)

Well that will be kinda hard for me to do even still ... I have never owned a ps2 , plus the only one i have ever played i routinely get my arse kicked at Tiger Woods 2006 ... Never played anything else from the PS2. I used to enjoy video games ALOT. My favs are anything made by square/enix ... those folks can truely make an awe inspiring rpg...
