Friends, please forgive me whilst I have a rant here.

I am sick and tired of spammers putting up c**p on my guestbooks. I took a guestbook off of one of my sites as it was attracting nothing but spam.

Recently I have been getting links put up on the guestbook to porn sites on www.limebrook.com. This guestbook is used a lot, and mainly by the kids riding at the riding school. The kids love the guestbook, often using it to stay in touch. There are 137 genuine entries on the guestbook, and I really don't want to have to take this down.

It really is an unfair world, isn't it?

Yes Trish it really is, and it is unfair ... I approve my entries first, that way no garbage gets in there, yes it's a pain, but I want to have the guestbook, I just wish there was some sort of police patrol on the internet to report these harrassers ... there really should be ...

Im so on your side with this issue. Thats the exact reason I took mine down...just not worth it...
I wonder Trish - I dont know if this is the proper forum..but is it possible to just create a comment page within your site? Spammers dont seem to use that. Comments doesnt seem to be the word they are looking for, then on your site you can have a link button written as guestbook...
just a thought.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions - trouble is with the Limebrook site I use the Advanced Guestbook, not the Viper, and I don't think there's a way to moderate the comments before they appear which is part of the problem. The last couple of entries were about sites for teen sex, so if this keeps on I am really going to have to take the guestbook off.

I have been trying to think of ways to keep the original entries, and try something new. If anyone knows how to 'copy' these easily into another type of guestbook which can be moderated please let me know!

Well Trish me lady, yes and no...as when asking a pertinent question, you don't need the emotions...so thats what chat is about, get the P.O. out and then ask a rational question!...lol...
I so do understand the frustration, as Id said I was fully loaded with mostly junk..and yes, I can go in every morning and delete all the bad stuff, and yes there are filters so you can approve the post before the public can see the smut...lol...but who has the time?! I don't. So thats why I just got rid of it...sadly but now hopefully you feel better and you can go over to the guest book forum and maybe there is some magic for you over there!....

I use the viper, I had a problem once, kind of lost it's format on the page, didn't lose the entries though, easiest thing I could think of was to copy the comments to word, then install new guestbook and invididually put them back in via copy & paste ... might be alot of work for your if you have tons of entries, but truly worthwhile saving, and then you could get the viper guestbook and moderate these creepies that we are ranting about ..... especially if you want to keep it .....

Exact same thing happened to me Trish, I now do the approval, I am not home most of the time so I didn't want that stuff sitting in my guestbook for others to see, and I do like the guestbook. Pro's & Con's
