Welcome to VodaLand Jilly, - what part of Florida?
The poppy is the Unite Kingdom's (and a few other countries including Canada) way of remembering their veterans and civilians killed hence "Remembrance Day" It is not a custom to wear it in the USA, although we do honor our veterans on the same day November 11th.
