    Smile Digital Cameras?

    Hi there,

I just joined this forum yesterday, and was wondering if any one had some advice on what type of digital camera would be best for taking pictures of small models/ornaments.

What with Christmas coming up, my wife and I are intending to purchase a digital camera for ourselves. However, before buying thought it would be best to seek some advice.

Budget of around £150 or so.

    Many thanks,

    John.

Taking pictures of small objects requires a lense
that will get close up. I have a fuji 3800 which
takes great pics but I can't get close to a small
item such as a piece of jewlery or toy. You might
search for a dig cam that will allow you to attach
a close-up or macro lense, such as a Cannon Rebel EOS.

You will want at least a camera with a 5mp or more ..... if you are not needing to take photos at a distance, your optical lens will not be that important, so perhaps the better part of your investment should lie within the mps of the camera

A great site to visit for advice before purchasing a camera is Steve's Digicams, here is the link to the site ....

You will be able to find all the information you would want this on this site.

I am partial to Canon, however any digital cam today is essentially the same. For photos like closeups, make or buy a light box so shadows are reflected equally.

Hi, it depends if you prefer a SLR or compact.
Fuji Finepix F30 and F3 have been getting some good write ups & was voted best on the UK gadget show. But have to agree with Bill on the Canon side of things, plus a light tent with good lighting (very important)
Don’t be influenced by the digital zoom side of things. Go for good optical zoom if needed.
High meg cameras only needed if you need to enlarge & need very, very fine detail.
A 5meg camera is more than enough for the average user with good lighting.

    Hi John.

I have two cameras, one being a Canon EOS 400D and the other being a Pentax Optio S40. For macros (Close up shots) I would really recommend the Pentax Optio S40. I have taken so many amazing photos with its macro setting. If you want to see what the photos are like, tell me and I will show you. Its a 4 million mega pixel camera, takes an SD memory card. You can view the camera here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pentax-S40-D.../dp/B0001FFMCA

I wont recommend the Canon EOs 400D for macro photography.. Just yet because I am still getting used to the camera, and its not in the price range you stated!

    Hope that helps!

    Regards
    Teri

Well for the cams a lot of advise has already been given.

If you want to make close ups make sure you have a good tr****, light and adjustable. Also handy for the grouped family pictures !
