Smile What movie you still and will always remember?

    Hi everyone,

Last night I watched AGAIN, one of my favorite movies, it is a bit old, but it left a mark on my mind, I will always recommend it to whoever I know.

    "Before I reveal my secret"

    Lets start this :

Tell us what is your favorite movie, and why

It could be old it could be new, but a movie which left a trace on you and you will watch it again and again, and you will never get sick of it, and you will recommend it to whoever you know.

Okay, I'll play, but I am wondering why you get to keep yours secret?

    Okay here is mine.

    "Somewhere in Time"

Jane Seymour & Christopher Reeves ...........

    WHY

Because it's one of the most awesome love romancing stories ever ever made .... imo of course .... and I love her acting ... I also like the time era of the movie .... and it is just as it should be, wholesome & loving ...

I don't know if it's a goodie, for me it's a perfect one, but I just don't want the over underthinkers to say that I'm a bit from over somewhere. Anyway you will understand later.

BUT YOU DIDN'T SAY WHY YOU LIKE THAT MOVIE hehehehe.

There are four movies that I will always remember

-Schindlers List (about the escape of 1200 jews from the Nazis due to the help of german Businessman.)
    -Hotel Rwanda
    -Screbrenica

Both films about the hypocrisy of the west when it comes to peace missions.

And a more romantic Notting Hill gate, the firs film I saw with my girlfriend !

Wink Re: What movie you still and will always remember?

This is a tough one for me........I like movies. I liked Schindlers & Rwanda too nlnieu, I own both those movies and watch them often. Tragic to say the least. However......I pick Gladiator, because of the way they lived, fighting each day to live another in a spectators ring, the way "Crowe" united the men to beat the chariots, how evil cesar was, the lions scared me to death. I always thought myself a fairly strong and tough person, until some of these movies. Surreal and intense, had me on the edge of my seat, especially when the lions come out.......scary. I would not want to live like this or Schindlers/Rwanda.

The costuming was excellent in this movie, one of my pet peeves.........(poor costuming, historically incorrect)

OK... my favortie and sticks in my head for ever is Star Wars.

I saw this when I wasa child and it was the ultimate in fight of good vs. evil and the tecnology for that time was awesome and still amazing. I even took my niece and nephew out of school to play hooky to go see the trilogy when they were re-released on the big screen again.

    IT made a great impact.

The other three that stick in my mind are JAWS, GHANDHI, AND ET

Yeah notice the sci-fi trend ..heheh

I do like these types as well as many others, I like the science fiction ones too Beez, Star Wars was a movie beyond its time in technology, I remember going to see it in the theatres...1977 I think. I know the BBC, however would you believe I don't have cable? lol I buy movies and documentaries, watch the news and play jeopardy, perhaps a few other shows, that's enough tv for me.

Just remember 2 other films that were excellent.

Bob Hoskins & Mickey o’rourke in “Prayer for the dying”
Ben Gazzara & Antony Hopkins in “QB V11” (Queens bench seven)

Both really good films, but never got the accolades they deserved.

One of my absolute favs also - but most people I mention it to have never heard of it.
Also in the top for me is the original version of Bedazzled. I saw it for the first time when things in my life were quite frazzled, to put it simply - and it had me laughing anyway.

All time top of my list though - because it is inspiring to me - is "Mr Smith Goes to Washington".

Some good movies listed, some I've never heard of, but will add them to my list of must see's. Gone with the Wind classic, Carrie scared me too, ET yep....I cried, The Sting was excellent, I was actually going to say that one, glad you did Karel.

What about Marching with the Penquins......I thought this one was good, I didn't realize what a penquin had to go through, a well told story, if you like that kind of movie/documentary. I cried over this one too. Just give me a box of kleenex. lol

It's too hard to pick 1 movie as being my favourite... so I will list some of my most favourites:

    A Beautiful Mind (Russell Crowe)
It really effected me for days after seeing this movie, simply because unfortunately it is reality for a huge amount of people all round the world.

Shine (Geoffrey Rush) True story about David Helfgott.
A truly inspirational real life story about determination and real unconditional love.

Harry Potter & Lord of The Rings (All of them)
I love the escape from reality.

    Madagascar (Animated)
My partner and I love it more than my 6 year old does... We both love the King of the Limas... lol
I Sing For My Soul... la, la, la...

Something I just have to comment on. I'm more of a book person than a movie person - because I find it very rare that a movie is as good as a book. Almost every movie listed above - is better as a movie. And now I need to find and buy King of Hearts - been too long since I've seen that - and it's one I want to own.

As to Harry Potter - don't stone me - I'm one of the few people in the world that doesn't like those movies :)

Bethers I am with you on the Harry Potter style, I haven't seen it, and I really care not to and sorry Star Wars fans, not into that either ... and I detest James Bond movies and Charlie Chan types too ....

Give me Steven Seagal, Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, True Stories & All the Hallmark movies you can find.

Yep, Beth, The King of Hearts gets me every time. I just love that one. I need to own it, too.
And you know what other one gets me every time? City of Angels.
The first time I saw that one I was on a plane going somewhere and I was absolutely overcome by a huge wave of lonliness; felt almost like a kind of homesickness on a soul level...
Funny, though, it was definately the story that moved me, as opposed to the acting.. go figure.

Being an "old un " the film I will always remember is an old film " The Robe "
but on the lighter side I will always remember " Pirates of the Caribbean " and " Once upon a Time in Mexico " purely and simply because of Johnny Depp. Having seen most of his films he amazes me with his acting ability.

Another film I will always remember is " Reach for the Sky " the true story about Douglas Bader who after losing both his legs in a flying accident overcame all his difficulties to become a World War 2 flying ace. And I will always remember the love and courage shown by his wife through all this

There are soooooooo many great films. I love almost all the gangster films especially 'Goodfellas', 'A Bronx Tale' and 'The Untouchables'. I really love 'Hunt for Red October'. I agree that Johnny Depp is an amazing actor and have loved most of his films. A strange one that you may not have heard of: an Australian film called 'Malcolm', I love it. It's whacky and has some cool music. Lol I enjoy the animated movies too, I've just watched 'Cars' and thought it was brilliant. This year I really enjoyed 'Stealth' and 'The Island'.

Since it's Christmas one movie I always liked, besides the classics....Miracle on 34th & Scrooge, is Jingle All the Way.......thought this movie was so funny,.............two parents (Schwarzenegger & Sinbad) fighting over the hottest toy for Christmas.

    Shucks, haha!

Silent Hill - I've played and bet every game they made for Play Station and Play Station 2. I've always loved scary games and scary movies so when you play the game and you find out a movie comes out based on the game you gotta see it! Right? .. and since you played the game you get to understand the movie a little better.

Déja Vu - I've recently seen this movie not to long ago, and the reason I like this movie is that it has such a great story, and it makes sense and it keeps you interested and it makes you think alot!

WOW WOW WOW WOW, I'M IMPRESSED GUYS.I left just 2 or 3 days because I had to upgrade my computer, and then came back to find all this replies ?!!!! WOW.VASILI, I'm looking forward to know what you were going to say, just in brief, sacrifice a bit for us.The goal of this thread is to give opinions about our favorite movies and exchange titles, you might find some interesting great movies that you shouldn't miss.Alright, I'll start to say that all movies mentioned so far are so great and are listed in my favorites.I like one of the movies not mentioned so far, first because it's based on a true story and 2ndo, the main event "in the story" was in 24 h exact, how one of the biggest actors Robert Redford "Agent Nathan Muir" take his protege off the hook within 24 h based, before execution in suchao prison just by phone calls and money transfer, Brad Pitt The girl's favorite "no comment" he is always on the top, SPY GAME just make me living with the story each time, I give that movie 8.25/10

    Will try again....

Unbearable Lightness of Being :: The first movie I felt was as "close to life" as possible, and because it was a very tumultuous love story, despite being a tragedy

Quest For Fire :: Wonderfully composed, and touched upon the basest of instincts

Butterflies Are Free :: Taught me that love is not always all it "appeared" to be

It's A Wonderful Life :: If I have to explain myself here, then you need to crawl back under your rock!

Love Story :: Again, a lifelike way to remind me that despite all expectations, the most important things in life are those we can't contain or control, and to never deny Love the opportunity to express Itself

Gladiator :: A riveting illustration that in the midst of any and all of life's horrors, tenderness can thrive, and true leadership is a state of mind, not merely proclamation (and that invariably, it is "proved"): a modern version of Job and surviving with grace (and class)

Titanic :: Legendary myself (LOL), I believe that this epic tale reminds us to sieze every opportunity to LIVE a life worth living, and to cherish the LOVE we fill it with!

Ghost :: An emotional fav - reminds me that cliches are more true than chic: faith can availeth much, and the only true eternalisms we can participate with this side of heaven (love, memories) outlast us all, therefore to live fully, freely, and without regret

The Boy With Green Hair :: The inspiration for me to have "It's all a matter of perspective!" as my personal motto since 1969

and....some of the others already mentioned....(and many more!)

Favorite war movie - other than King of Hearts - for me would be Das Boot - that one really brought the war home for me.

It's a Wonderful Life is good - but I love the Capra movies Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and Meet John Doe.

For out-and-out laughs - give me the Marx Brothers still - and I still love watching Singin' in the Rain, too.

For a more recent movie that caught my eye and hasn't gotten the acclaim I feel it should: Songcatcher. I saw this by accident - and had to go buy it - it inspires me. It shows people of the Appalachian Mountains as real, with intelligence. The music is out-standing. It'll remain forever on my list of favorites.

Vasili, nice list, except Titanic, I can't watch it again, because they put a lotta lights over it within the media and that song of Celine Dion, I just was sick of it, it was always on the tv, advertisement, MTV etc etc.I'm just kind of like what nobody likes "kind of sometimes". Means like to be different if you want ;)Bether, so far nice choices, I just don't know why you didn't like Harry Potter, in fact, I like it because nothing is real on the story, well, let's say because it's a 100% science fiction and imaginary kind of movie.Anyway, I know you are a book woman, it's fine, but still like your list of choices.I know it's mentioned before, but I appreciate The GodFather, I even have the whole collection, and everytime I start watching the 1st part, I end up watching the full collection all night. We all know why it's a special movie, they even mix a real story with the rest of the created script. AMAZING.

    West Side Story....good one

A Beautiful Mind, Dirty Dozen, Ghost, The Godfather, The Ten Commandments, Singing in the Rain, As Good as it gets, I am Sam, Mystic River.....I've seen all these movies and thought they were good. I'm curious about the King of Hearts, I've never seen that one.

A movie I liked was "Enough" with Jennifer Lopez, alot of people don't care for her, but she has made three movies that I liked. This movie in particular I liked because she got him good in the end.

    Sean Penn another good actor

Well, yeah agree that I'm one of those who don't like JL, why? because in her movies, you feel that she is acting, and the act is fake, not like other actors who make you feel that's a story and he/she is the person really involved in.One of the latest one I saw, "Indian" the motorcycle race, it's just touch me the way he made his dream come true, even if it's not a big thing for others, but for him, it was everything to race and reach that speed he always wanted, with that indian motorcycle, without breaks, without parachute, no safety measues, but hell he did it.

This is probably not what one would consider a great movie but I never get tired of it and that is TOP GUN! LOL I know I know I'm a big ol' dork. But, I guess I like it so much because it is probably one of the biggest reasons that inspired me to go in to the aviation field as a kid growing up.

Aside from that I also really liked the movies Rome, The Matrix, and the Shawshank Redemption just to name a few more but in no particular order.

I loved Indian! I've already watched it twice - actually watched it two days in a row. They did a great job bringing his dream and reality to the screen.

A great satirical movie this year was Thank You For Smoking

I do like most of the true story movies and if they involve animals, I'm a sucker - some even when they aren't done as well as I'd like - I cried my eyes out last week watching Eight Below. The scenery and dogs were magnificent - and what they had to endure is way beyond anything I could imagine!

I know what you mean about the JLo NP, same as some of Sandra Bullock's movies, but I still like them.

Indian was a good movie, he had some luck all along the way, Shawshank Redemption another good one. The matrix had some cool special effects.

How about StepMom...Julia Roberts & Susan Sarandon, its about two children with divorced parents, stepmom (Julia) and the real mom (Susan) who ends up with cancer, all through the movie the two moms don't hit it off, they work it out in the end, this movie is a guarantee to make you cry .... pass the kleenex...lol

GI Jane....Demi Moore, she was tough in this movie

I loved Billy Elliot to and speaking of English Movies...here are two more of my favorties - Brassed Off, Waking Ned Devine, The Englishman who went up a hill and came down a Mountain, and Little Voice. There are many more but these jump to mind.

I had not realized how many movies I have seen ...almost all that were mentioned o nthe thread...and now I feel like going back and watching them again...hmmm...maybe we should havea movie of the week or month club...rent a movie and we all watch and then have a fun discussion. Ok it was jsuta thought...lol

I just thought of another favorite- was a low budget movie - originally was planned as a documentary - and is one I love - called Straight. When he crosses the Mississippi in the movie - they filmed about 2 miles from where I lived.
