    Default Quiz

    FIND THE LIGHTEST COIN
8 pieces of same value of coins, one piece is a little lighter than the rest.
Use a balance weight that has a plate on its left and right to find out which piece is the lightest coin with the least number of times of weighing them.
Please tell number of times you weight them in order to find out the lightest coin and how?

    ---------------
    The answer is 3

4 on the left 4 on the right, whichever 4 is lighter, you split to be 2 on the left 2 on the right, whichever is lighter, split to be one on the left one on the right... then you got the lightest coin

yes . use two scales at the same time to weight them, there is only a piece which is the lightest of all 8 pieces.

Of course, we don't really to take out two scales to do it here.
We just try to figure out how to do it by using the least amount of times to weight them in order to find the lightest piece.

ok, how about you put them all on the scale and take them off one by one, deducting the weight each time.

How do you know which pair is the lightest before you weight them.
You can weight them as many times as you want, but here, we want you to do it with the least number of times to find the lightest piece from 8 pieces, using two scales at the same times. Please try again.

    3 Times
You don't know before you weigh them,
Step 1: randomly put 2 coins on each side of one scale and and do same for other scale. Discard heavier ones.
Step 2: place lighter pairs on one scale, discard heavier pair
Step 3: place one coin each side, discard heavier.

and of course there must be an easier way. lol

    lokl blue ...

    okay ... 2 scales ... 8 coins ....

    1. 4 coins on each scale, determine which scale is now the lightest, the lighter coin must be within that group of 4.
    2. Take group of 4 and divide into two - we now have another set of two that contains the lighter coin ...
    3. Take the lighter set of two coins and place one coin in each scale and find the lightest ...

helloooooooooooooooo .... that is too simple ...

Chris was right, he guessed 3 ....

    What's so tough about that?

Where's the gold? That's the question, that's the real quiz Blue ...

    2...

Weigh 3 on the left, 3 on the right. If they weigh the same then weigh the last two and you will find the lighter one.

If one set of 3 weighs more then the other then take any 2 of those and weigh them. Once weighed, one will be lighter then the other or if they are the same then the last one of the 3 is the lightest
