I don't think she quite knows what to make of it all......

Not many kids trick or treatn' tonight, I had maybe 24 kids......when I was a kid we would take a pillow slip from the closet and out the door didn't come home till 10:00, now its over by 8 - 8:30.

..........oh yeah some egging was involved when we went, I didn't throw any.....but I did collect a sac full of treats.........lol

Ask yer Sis! We were IM'ing at the time of the 2nd one....I had things fall off the shelves. on the first one the other day....and it was 5.6, BTW. Not only is that a significant displacement, it is important as what kind of quake it is....rolling, jump, shaker, wave, etc., as well as the duration. This one was about 10 seconds, and the Loma Prieta (the one where the Bridge collapsed) was about 35 seconds at about 6.4....

With everyone getting so overweight nowadays, and given the liberal attitudes the Golden State seems to foster, I am surprised they haven't mandated diets to reduce the effects man has on the impending "split" with mainstream America! OK...not funny, but I tried!

I really am trying to get all my "interests" online as quickly as I can, to replace my income entirely via eCommerce, so I can be free to go where I want to be and not be held captive where I have to be! So I guess that means I'm not long for California, even though I was raised here.
I see myself heading back to the Gulf Coast, frankly.....huge marble floored house on the water, 12 foot wall around the estate (hell, Safeway and Publix markets both deliver online grocery shopping!), get to work at home wearing shorts and tees everyday, sounds of wild parrots flying overhead, modems humming....

Not so scary, really. Some of the shakers can be intense, sometimes they make a big noise at the start, but heck, the rollers are just plain fun..

5.6 is sizable, but they gain in strength exponentially, so a 6 pointer is much much stronger than a 5.6, for example.

This one, our house moved up and down a bit, all the birdfeeders swayed, my friend's pool sloshed around.. as opposed to the Loma Prieta when where I was the house flexed like it had a wave under it, and it went on and on and on, and the other end of the couch was as high as my head... even so it really sounds scarier when you talk about it.

And as Vasili says the duration is key, too. 1- seconds gets your attention, but 35 seconds... can't ignore that one.

Thing is, they aren't too often... I love California, Vasili, why would you want to leave? Yep it's expensive to stay, but is hard to beat the climate and the variety of geography found within a relatively short drive..

Well, for openers, you are up where they still have real trees that out-number people, and the people aren't wrapped so tight they shine!
California having a variety of anything within a short drive? Yes, but the traffic and logistics of moving around safely takes the fun out of the 3-day weekend. To me, it's just like the frustration I encounter going out for dinner at what was once a very upscale place, prepared to spend 2 bills on a quiet evening, only to be distracted by the guy at the table across from me eating like a pig while his kids are obnoxiously behaving badly or worse, plain wild.......no class anywhere anymore, just everyone madly scrambling about trying to keep up and be somebody!

Oh, and the rumor thing? Hee-hee.....we still lead the nation on keeping secrets and the best things to ourselves!

I guess one of the things I like is that I can pretty much find whatever I am looking for here, geographically, ethnically, culturally.. that is such a change from a good part of the country. And, yes you are right, I am fortunate to live in a less developed part..but there is quite a bit of that left, really..

I can give you a good example, just recently......went to Ruths Chris Steakhouse, known for its cuisine, sure, but also with the "ambiance" of more an adult genre, right? I mean, even the prices tend to keep some diners mindful, right?
Not only was the guy "over there" an absolute pig, he was downright rude and abusive to the woman he was with: took a lot for me to keep my nose out of it entirely! I was proud of the fact I didn't even get caught giving dirty looks, let alone go over and clock him.....although if I felt THAT strongly, I would probably opt to mention "the situation" to my server, expecting something "offical" to be done to address the fact it was disrupting the time many of us were trying to have. Everyone was trying to be so 'politically correct' that he got away with it......if only a few of us gave him a look like we "didn't approve" I bet he would have cleaned up his act ---- no one is being held accountable anymore, and the younger generations seem to think it's OK to simply act any damned way they want with impunity!

The Artic is melting 2-3 times faster than normal, an estimated 13 - 88 million people are expected to be flooded within the next 30 years...and Nova Scotia is one of them.......PEI, might as well bail out now.....lol (it's only six miles wide in one area)

More, hurricanes, more droughts, more heat waves, record breaking temps in the late 90's

It isn't so much that you get used to them, as that you sort of understand they just don't happen that often. I have been here most of my life, with some exceptions, and there haven't been that many of any significant size.
I remember one when I was very young, maybe 4 or 5, that was pretty big, it was a 5.8 aftershock from and earlier quake that I don't remember, and then Loma Prieta, of course.. That was the one in 1989 that did so much damage to the bridge and roadways.
But other than that, here in Northern California we have been pretty lucky. There have been more in Southern California, but unless they are over like 6 or so, we generally wouldn't feel them much here.

So they aren't like tornadoes, or hurricanes, that happen every year, and unless they are realtively big or closeby nobody really notices. Even that one the other night - I was on the phone and didn't know at first if it really was a quake, until it got alittle heavier and lasted several seconds..

Yeah, earthquake humor; we are sort of used to it.. kind of like your weather..

I didn't watch this no but it doesn't surprise me one bit. I remember when I was a child going through, autumn, spring, summer, winter... and knowing you were in each season.... now it's not a surprise to see clear blue warm skies Christmas day, snow in June, rain in summer... it's all messed up.

I have been tempted to begin a thread, but it seemed like overkill.....with all the flooding in the news, I was assuming that connection was going to be a challenge for some time, to say the least!

I see the entire region is inundaunted, and I know he is preoccupied keeping his family safe. I am sure we will hear from him when he is able soon enough.....hopefully.....

Yeh weather humor........we hear it all...and speaking of which, it's nasty out here......blowing & raining sideways again, on my way to work & to Kate's......there is this area that funnels the wind in between the buildings, today the wind picked my jeep up, and the bridge to Halifax was swaying....we had hurricane Juan & White Juan a few years back.......that was the biggest I remember, power was out for 5 days, gas shortage, unpassable roads because of trees down, you could see the path.

Mother Nature she's a strong one.

I remember building the biggest snowfort with my schoolmate, the plow would create this huge mountain after it cleared the snow from the store parking lot, we would work on it for days......lots of tunnels, we had one from the top of the mountain and we made it into a slide "undersnow" to the bottom......pretty cool for a 12 year old......lol

I haven't seen snowfalls like that on the Eastern Shore for years, the northern shore still gets it though. In 97/98........we had a heatwave, where as temperatures were in the low 30's & peaked around 38 (celsius) the season started early May & lasted till late October or there abouts......that is something I've never seen before either....

Aww bless him! Yeah I am serious! Its been a crazy few months. Went to Spain to see my sister in oct/start of nov. came back from spain, then a week later went to Italy. Had to sort stuff out over there cos of my nan and stuff. Came back from Italy and again.. A week later Came to Germany to help my sister move. Packers have been here since 8 this morning. Im so tired lol. Believe it or not.. I dont actually have any good photos... Only from the plane lol. It rained everywhere we went!

Seriously, I have been very busy. I am trying to get a couple of my sites off the ground. I know to get the benefits I have to put the work in. Also just started writing my new book, first one has been really well received and so I decided I had enough info for another. I do come along and look at the posts from time to time, but new people come along and you feel like you are getting left behind on the gossip.

Never leave for good though, been on a few forums and there are none that come close to having such wonderful, helpful people on. O.k enough praise for one day, the city needs saving.

I have opened a facebook account, I know didlly squat about it, someone said it maybe of use to my anxiety site, I will look into it later.

So good holiday Teri? 'Wartys' been picking on me, tons of spells. I have been made to wear a silly christmas hat on my head, did'nt even let me take it off for bed. Then she chops the top of my head off, had to sleep standing up for a couple of days, so as not to mess up the carpet.

But I still love my withchy, she makes me smile every day!!!
