    Default Where is the £1.00?

3 men need a room for the night and the hotel manager tells them it will cost £30.00.

Each man hands over £10.00 and then head to the room.

The hotel manager then realises the cost of the room should’ve have been just £25.00
So he gives his porter £5.00 and tells him to give the 3 men their change.

The porter decides that £5.00 is a bit difficult to split into 3 and so gives each man £1.00 and keeps £2.00 for himself.

This means each man ACTUALLY paid £9.00 each

    So, 3 x £9.00 = £27.00 plus the £2.00 the porter kept = £29.00

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER £1.00??

I heard this one a long long time ago... but it still beats me!
Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.

I don't know where the pound went but I showed it to my wife (a british ex-pat to the US from Newcastle) and it's really driving her nuts. She can't stand the idea of losing a pound lol....

Actually the cost of the room is 2 pounds + 25 pounds (the 2 pounds stolen by the porter and the 25 pounds legitimately charged. The 3 pounds returned was the change for your grand total of 30 pounds. You are subtracting when you should be adding and vice-versa.

THE COST OF THE ROOM IS £25.00

    DIVIDE BY THREE = £8.333P

SO EACH PERSON SHOULD OF PAID £8.333p

THE PORTER GAVE EACH PERSON £1 BACK
SO EACH PERSON REALLY GOT BACK £9.333P
IN RELATION TO THE COST OF THE ROOM!

    SO

9.33 X 3 =27.990 + 2.00 THE PORTER HAD = 29.990 WITH THE POINT 9 BEEN ABOVE 0.5 THE FIGURE IS ROUNDED UP TO THE NEXT POUND
    £30.00

And for those that still cannot get their head around it.

first and foremost, focus on the cost of the room, £25.00.

The man who decided the room was £25 gave the proter £5.00, Rightly so.

The proter made the error of not giving enough change to each person. and he stole £2.00 of their change and would have been sacked if he had been one of my emplyee's

Each person should have been given £1.66

The £27 pounds comes form mulityplying what each person has been given back. and bears no relation to the cost of the room.

£27.00 is not the cost of the room.
