Man I SWEAR I answered this.
That was in Arizona, north of Flagstaff for the most part. Thats the Grand Canyon.. Across the canyon there parts are Nevada and Utah...
Moab is close to Colorado and the Palisade Peaks, Mesa Verde, and Bookcliffs which begin to move into the Grand Canyon eventually so yes.. its very similar.

raganok, it's the Grand Canyon, Man lol! It is entirely within the state of Arizona, although, as Karen said, it is very close on the North Rim to Utah and Nevada in certain places. At the bottom ( 1 mile at its deepest) is the Colorado River (that carved it) which is 1350 miles long from its origins in the Colorado Rockies at over 10,000 ft in elevation to the Gulf of California. The Grand Canyon is measured in river miles, 277 that flow through it, and it is between 10 and 18 miles wide. Karen was on the South Rim which has over 5 million visitors a year. Moab is pretty but it ain't the Grand Canyon.
Great pics, Karen! I recognize almost every viewpoint you took them from :)

Hey Karen, here's one from the North Rim (12 miles directly across form the El Tovar Hotel and the Kachina House) looking back atcha.....
In the middle of the picture on the horizon you can just make out San Francisco Peaks, which you probably saw when you went through Flagstaff. San Francisco Peaks (the Sacred Mountain to all of the Pueblo people and most notably, the Hopi, the heart of the culture, going back over 1000 years) is 12,066 ft above sea level and in this picture it is about 75 miles away.
It was very important to these ancient folks that wherever they lived they could see and relate to the Sacred Mountain.
Thanks for a great slide show:)

Ken...
yeah I saw those. Ive been over on the northern rim too, just not this trip..didnt have time.. and the big view east of Vegas is pretty awesome too.
Those were taken with an old fashioned 35mm camera with telescopic lens so I could get the distance and the massiveness. Digitals are great, but they just dont do it quite the same sometimes. Or maybe I just like playing with the photography.. i dont know. I have some shots with the digital too.. they just dont look the same..to me.
You all welcome.
