Hi friends,

I thought I'd open 'Our Place'.

Have seen a similar thread on Racefan's forum and it's so cool - thought it might be nice here.

Pop by anytime, chat, vent, moan, groan, share, be happy, have a giggle and catch up with other Voda friends. Rules of the forum apply - NO SHOP TALK.

Fish and Cat Story


One spring day, a fish was swimming about a foot below the surface of a lake and saw a fly hovering just out of striking distance.

The fish said to itself, "If that fly comes six inches closer, I'll jump up and have myself a meal." Just then, a bear on the shore of the lake looked up and said to itself, " If that fly gets any closer to that fish, the fish will jump up, and I'll catch the fish and have myself a meal."

As luck would have it, a hunter saw what was happening. He thought to himself, "If that fly moves closer to the fish, the fish will jump, the bear will lean over to grab the fish, and I'll shoot the bear."

Just then, a rat was standing behind the hunter saying to itself," If that fly moves closer to the fish, the fish will jump, the bear will lean over to grab the fish, the hunter will lean over to shoot the bear, and I'll grab the sandwich from the back pocket of the hunter.

However, unbeknownst to the rat, a cat was observing everything and thinking, "If that fly moves closer to the fish, the fish will jump, the bear will grab the fish, the hunter will shoot the bear, the rat will grab the sandwich, and I'll snatch the rat."

At that very moment, the fly dropped a few inches, the fish grabbed the fly, the bear grabbed the fish, the hunter shot the bear, the rat grabbed the sandwich, the cat jumped, missed the rat and landed in the lake.

The moral of this story is:

If the fly drops six inches the ***** will get wet.

I understand - this is "our Place" a thread, as they say. That's good. No need to get into another forum or whatever.

Gwetting too busy around here - the next three weeks will not allow much time for computing but will try to keep up with all of you - what- in two weks - 34 (old) new jokes, sixteen new websites from Amanda, 300 hours of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs from Allstar, 6 newbies trying to get on google without paying any fees, and twelve people who can't publish their new site because they have a capital letter in the file name (as I did). All loverly.

I'm having a particularly hard time at work at the moment - I'm investigating a grievance complaint and boy do you have to be careful with that. So each lunchtime I log onto the forum and have a great laugh at all your posts - especially these today!

Just don't tell anyone - not supposed to use the internet at work for personal stuff!

Tired eyes! Apologies! I read an email a few weeks ago where someone had painstakingly re-arranged the letters in each word. The first and last letters were as they should be but everything else was mixed up. Astonishingly enough - it was very, very easy to read! I'm not brilliant at proof reading my own work as I see what I know it should read. That's why the 'promote your site' forum is an important place for me. As Kate pointed out in a previous post, spellcheckers do not pick up on wrong words - just mis-spelt ones.

Oh well.... back to the makeovers....

Professional spelling checkers have a strange job. When I knew about them - some years ago- they worked about 2 hours, had an hour off and then back at it. The best would read the piece from back to front to avoid getting interested in what was written and - try it - so the eye stops on each word. You cannot have an imagination and you cannot be overly intelligent (the mind wanders) thought gets in the way of checking. Bizarre. Now you know more about that breed than you ever wanted to know.

"mis-spelt" is also interesting if it's raining out and you've lost electricity: "mispelled" is a word; "spelt" is a word; "mis-spelt" is not a word but everyone understands it and uses it.

Quiet night here - I think you can tell.

About the spell check, I was formerly a secretary and we relied heavily on the spell check. However, some secretaries didn't agree with the fact that we still had to proof-read our work and couldn't understand why I still proofed it after and tried to talk me out of it. It's reassuring that other people have the same point of view that I do. :)

Monday is not a holiday as far as I know, however, my mum always told me that Monday is the first day you can pick flowers outside, and then make a bouquet for your mother with those flowers and put them in water. No one I've ever talked to has heard of this so it must be a family thing.

In the area where I am currently living, the weekend closelst to May Day is flower planting day, although we are still experiencing very cold nights, I plan to wait a couple more weeks, that's if the yard boy actually does show up. (I'm thinking of firing him, if I ever see him again!)

Hi folks - beautiful spring day here. I live out in the country, and the view I am looking at as type is fields and fields of rape - poor hubby not amused as he is allergic to it! Brilliant yellow reflecting into the house - looks lovely now but in a couple of months it starts to smell like rotting cabbages. Ok, so living out in the country has its drawbacks! Much prefer it when the farmer plants wheat!

Fun creating stuff, I know, but what are the long term (or even medium term) consequences to a "must be attended to at all times" type web business? How, as most of you are "loners" or at most "twosomes", do you plan to get a break now and then?

Perusing many sites today where the promise of great - all but instant -response is called for tells me that many of you young entreperneurs are tied to your keyboards and screens, plus the added responsibility of fulfiilling the creative side of your businesses.

There are consequences. That is all I am prepared to say. A very wise observation.

coffeee coffeeee, oh yeah its time for a coffeee...lol

There is much to be said about the ritual of preparing a good cup of coffee, and yet so much is clouded by superstitious claptrap that really doesn't have any effect on what the final cup tastes like. What counts is simple math and physics, and as long as you understand the chemistry of coffee you can produce a perfect cup every time.

Hi Dave & everyone else....I just wanted to put in my two cents and say...I'm an addict to the web thing (nourished by coffee and tea)...I've given up cartoons (yes I watch cartoons..bugs,daffy etc) for this...that's how bad it is...lol. I've gotten into this whole web world and even starting a 3rd site about my love of cheesy b movies, and am helping a friend start his bird society website.
I also love chatting with you all and as we in jamaica would say...every ting' is every ting' mon and all is good.

Cool! With you there with the cartoons! I was seriously, and I mean seriously, addicted to 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' - the one where they build a new house in a week! It's on every day over here - I haven't 'seen' one in ooh.... ages! Lol.

Speaking with the general

It was a dark, stormy, night. The Marine was on his first assignment, and it was guard duty.

A General stepped out taking his dog for a walk. The nervous young Private snapped to attention, made a perfect salute, and snapped out "Sir, Good Evening, Sir!"

The General, out for some relaxation, returned the salute and said "Good evening soldier, nice night, isn't it?"

Well it wasn't a nice night, but the Private wasn't going to disagree with the General, so the he saluted again and replied "Sir, Yes Sir!".

The General continued, "You know there's something about a stormy night that I find soothing, it's really relaxing. Don't you agree?"

The Private didn't agree, but them the private was just a private, and responded "Sir, Yes Sir!"

The General, pointing at the dog, "This is a Golden Retriever, the best type of dog to train."

The Private glanced at the dog, saluted yet again and said "Sir, Yes Sir!"

The General continued "I got this dog for my wife."

The Private simply said "Good trade Sir!"

Four people in the carriage of a train - an Englishman, a pretty young
blonde girl, an ugly old woman and a Frenchman.
