"A problem with the English Language Between A Englishman and a American"
During my brief stay with the English Army in Hong Kong I was invited by an English Officer to attend a dance at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. Insured I would have a good time as his Daughter would also attend. Had a wonderful time and his daughter was very attractive and a lot of fun.

We became friends and made plans to have a secont meeting the next day and tour Hong Kong! As we departed that evening she made the statement," You can come by early and knock me up! Now the words knock me up rang through my head all night and by morning I knew I didn't want to become a father at my young age so I didn't show up at her house nor did I call !

The Father being a Senior Officer sent for me to report to his office ! His question was, " why did you dissapoint my Daughter by not showing up"
My reply was, Sir I am not ready to be a father! And his reply " And What do you mean by that" Well, your Daughter told me to come by early and knock her up! O my God She ment Wake her up! I shiped out for Nom and never saw her again

Yet another entertaining linguistic debate between the american and english... as for us Aussies we just sit back and enjoy the fact that attention is not focused on our 'fair dinkum true blue dinky die chuckin a shrimp on the barbie for a bit'o'tucker washed down wiv a coldie or 2'..

I spent hours trying to sit on my fanny after hearing the Americans can! Still can't figure it out!!

or were announced in church services :

- Weight Watchers will meet at 7 PM at the First Presbyterian Church.
