Thread: When I am and old woman...

I love this poem and wanted to share it with you all...especially the ladies...

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

When i'm an old lady...I want to be one of those cantacarus old biddy's that poke people with her brolly and shove in front at the supermarket checkout que lol

Well now that explains a lot! Im not sure if all knows about the red hat society...but here there is a league of old ladies and they all have red hats - socials - and shop...lol...and they are pretty much as described atop!
My mom says that the best thing of old age is that you can finally let go and say whats on your mind without fear of ridicule!...lol..hey its an old woman, is all they think, she has the right!..and they never once think of their own aging bodies!...
Which makes me personally wonder why with my tackless mouth that I try so hard to keep it under control...just to let it go later!...lol
On links line - I want to be the hippy chick old lady with long dresses and have a huge garden for the kids to play in!

I love getting older...I'mconsidered the odd duck by my friends at times for this sentiment...but I've found I like me more older and I'm finally getting smarter...although getiin a bit more forgetful...oh well gotta sacrifice something....lol

I want to be on a porch with a few of my good friends watching the kids go by reminiscing but I also want to take a long road trip and remember that old can be fun too...ah well time enough to do it all...lol

When I get older, I want to be with you Lot...................

Getting older has so many advantages.
My eyesight is fading at exactly the time in my life that I really don't want be able to see myself in the mirror any more.
My memory is patchy, which means I don't have to feel so emabarased about the things I ...might have done.......??
And having finally excepted that I will not be rich, famous, or powerfull, I can get on with just trying to be nice.
I love it,.... so much less trivia to care about.
now if I could just remember where I left my glasses I could check the spelling.......ah well, who cares, it's the thought that counts.

Well, for all you ladies - women - who talk about getting older - just wait!!! I'm in my 75th year and who said life begins at 40? - it actually begins right now, this very day. Tomorrow, it will begin again. Just had my first solo art exhibition and now I'm building a website!! - the first page is on line at www.lornamack.com As they say here in Kiwiland - "Geeze Wayne - what next"!!! I've had a life that I wouldn't change for anything or anyone. Never one single dull moment!!! Most of us "oldies" are a darn siight 'younger' than some of you young folks!!!
Enjoy the prospect of getting older !!- it's only a number anyway. By the way - eating 3 pounds of sausages is not on the cards - I'd rather have a 'wee dram' !!! Lorna

Lorna your site looks great so far and thank you for reminding us how great life can be, and that you can do so much no matter how old you are...and the 'wee dram' sounds good to me...lol
