    Default Sitemap Info plz

Just wanted to start by saying I think you guys are awesome. I've read and learned so much from reading all of the posts all over this place. Anyhow, I saw a post somewhere that linked to a vodahost sitemap generator, but I lost it. Secondly I saw a post that said there was alot of sitemap info around, but I have yet to find much. I used some free sitemap generator that I found online at auditmypc.com. It makes XML, google, and html sitemaps. From what I've read, sitemaps are a useful tool for SEO. I decided to give it a shot. It crawled my site and gave me some useful information regarding some link errors and stuff that i was able to fix. I generated an HTML sitemap thinking that I might use it and add it to my site. After I opened the sitemap that it generated, I was pretty disappointed. It didnt look anything like i thought it should look.

I guess my question is this... I think my site is easy to navigate as it is because of the navigation bars. Can I just stick some weird looking XML sitemap in somewhere on my page for SEO purposes since the HTML sitemaps that these programs are generating dont look anything like i think they should. Perhaps someone knows of a good HTML sitemap generator that i can customize to look like i want it to.

Also does the sitemap have to be generated? or can it just be another page that i make to look how i want it to with an outline form of internal links?

Any information would be great. Thanks

All those site maps that you mentioned are created for the use of the search engines and it´s always a good idea to have one.

Each site map creator will create a file called xxxxx.xml which you upload to your public_html folder
and then provide a link on your home page to point to that file.
    i.e. http://yoursite.com/xxxxx.xml

Thanks David. I went to XMLSitemaps.com and generated an XML sitemap. I understand that I should upload it to my public_html file. However, you mentioned that i should link to it on my page? If I put a sitemap link in my footer to this XML file, wont that just confuse my users if they open up a page with a bunch of code?

What you do is to make the text link as small as you can and then place it where it wont be noticable.

Have a look here..... and see if you can find my sitemap link !!!!

if you check the source code, you will see that its on the page............

Thanks for the info. I also wanted to know if i can just copy and paste the code for robots to keep crawling my sitemap right into that XML page anywhere, or does it have to be in a certain spot or in a certain formatt... How would I go about doing that? thanks for all your help by the way.

Open up an html box (top, left side menu) and copy and paste the code there
    on your index/home page............

If you are interested, have a look at the Google Site Map Maker, it comes with its own bot, you can change the number of days that Google will visit and it will even ping Google when you have done..........and it will upload your file to the right place...............

    Check it out....

    have fun
