Smile Usage of Meta Description and Shows How to...

    Hello BV Friends,

I'd like share one good article with you here....

A direct impact the short text preview we display for
each web result " can have a direct impact on the chances
of your site being clicked (i.e. the amount of traffic Google
sends your way). We use a number of strategies for selecting
snippets, and you can control one of them by writing an informative
    meta description for each URL.

    <meta NAME="Description" CONTENT="informative description here"></meta>

Why does Google care about meta descriptions?

We want snippets to accurately represent the web result.
We frequently prefer to display meta descriptions of pages
(when available) because it gives users a clear idea of the
URL's content. This directs them to good results faster and
reduces the click-and-backtrack behavior that frustrates
visitors and inflates web traffic metrics. Keep in mind that
meta descriptions comprised of long strings of keywords don't
achieve this goal and are less likely to be displayed in place
of a regular, non-meta description, snippet. And it's worth
noting that while accurate meta descriptions can improve
clickthrough, they won't affect your ranking within search results.

    Regards,

    Zlatko

Zlatko - you need to give credit for articles that you print- you can't "steal" them and reprint them - even when they are good information.

If this one allows reprints, follow the rules - which means at least giving credit and probably a link to the article.

The simplest way is to give a link for people to read it from where it's hosted.

Well, Zlatko - on what you just gave - this follows it:
<quote>The comments you read here belong only to the person who posted them</quote>
That means you do NOT have the right to copy and paste them elsewhere without permission.

Just being on the web doesn't make them free to use that way.

Actually that specified disclaimer is saying that the comments that viewers/users of the article have left, belong solely to them (Basically saying the website doesn't take responsibility for the comments their users leave).

But you are still right, enough though its online, and its free information doesn't make it your information. (Usually its best to leave the website address you got it from, or use the bb quote code, leaving the website, or author as whom you are quoting)

Actually, you're right, I didn't look close enough and that article was provided by Google -not by the blogger. That makes it actually worse to have copied it - as doing so is violating the Google terms of service.

We all have the right to these articles - and I'm a true believer in free speech - but let's not hurt what we are or not entitled to do - and printing someone else's article without knowing if you are allowed to - is not a good thing. I didn't go looking for specifics on this issue, but I'll bet you money that in the Google terms of service - there is something that says you will not copy, reproduce, sell, duplicate, etc etc - any of their writings without specific permission to do so - probably in writing.

You simply have to follow their RULES for sharing the article. Just because they sent it to you - it doesn't give you free reign to reprint it - unless you follow their rules. If they give permission - usually that permission will also say something like you must include all links and the signature. That way they still get credit.
