Thread: META information - should I add these lines

I'm no expert on HTML but I've taken a look at a few other 'competitor' sites and in their HEAD they have included these lines

<meta name="distribution" content="global" />
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow" />
<meta name="revisit-after" content="15 days" />
<meta name="description" content="John Smith etc etc

BV hasn't created these lines but they do seem to have a reason for being there !

Should I be adding them to my site ?

If so, can someone give me a simple explanation as to why and how it works?

You really dont need those tags. the only useful ones there are the robots, and the revisit.. but even using the revisit tag doesnt guarantee the SE will visit you every 15 days. In fact if you dont have NEW content every 15 days.. they wont bother. Those are left over tags from a templated builder

If you CHOOSE to add them they would go on the page html between the head tags.

Just looked at KMAC and on my laptop, your banner appears on top of the headline text, so I can't read the big text !

Nothing that you put in meta by itself is going to get you to the top of the list. Its a combo of things INCLUDING the meta that gets you there.

Good content in all places. In meta, an appropriate TITLE and DESCRIPTION is what you need. A description should be a short little ad for your site, not a list of keywords. If you use keywords, then five or six KEYWORD PHRASES for that page ONLY is all you need. DO NOT try to encompass the WHOLE site on that one page. Your home page should be summary of your site and focus on the MAIN ideas of the site, not stuff every product or keyword on it either. Good linking to inner pages of your site, good content that is first designed for your viewer. Do your homework and find out what people are really searching for and what words do they use to search for the content you want to deliver to them.
