Thread: Are meta tags necessary on all pages

If you have pages such as error and success pages that comes up after a visitor fills out a form, should you still create meta tags even though no oene will ever search for these pages? I am still a newbie but I don't see how meta tags will benefit in any way for such pages. I'm sure I'm wrong but maybe one of you experts could set me straight.

No, its not usual to bother with this type of page, as you have rightly surmised,
unless you have created some extra additional and interesting content.

I was about to start a thread but I think this is about the same topic. Im trying to get my site optimized and Im wondering about meta tags with regard to pop up pages that (in my case) show detail and close up shots of products. It seems to me if the search engines landed a customer on one of these pages, there is no way to navigate to the main site. As they are images seo shouldnt find them should they (unless there are keywords and meta tags added)? Is it even safe to put alt text for pop up pages like these? Whats your advice please. Ive just read a book on SEO and it never even mentions it

Images are just as important as other parts of your site for SE's to find. I regularly search by Googles images, & quite often find it a lot quicker.

Thanks Chris - I know Im probable being a bit dense here but if an enlarged product image appears in a pop up window (and the searcher likes what they see) how will this person navigate to my site to make a purchase. If Google has landed him/her on the pop up page, where there is customarily no navigation, will they not be stranded there? Hence Im asking is it safe to fill in the meta tags on pop up pages such as Ive just described? Even putting my url into the page title would leave my potential customer to a)have to notice it there and b)enter the url manualy to reach my main site pages - Regards Antonia

Thanks myjaydee - thats a great idea. Do you, or anyone else, know however if it is wise to add metatags if there are no actual words on the page? I have got alt text in place of course, but meta tags suggest keywords and I fear adding metatags may be against the rules if there is only a big linked image but no text. I have a lot of these close up product shots as pop up pages on my site (one for each item I sell infact) and so, if filling in the meta tags is bad it would most certainly upset the SEOs and pan my ratings. Definately will link image back to home page though that strikes me as sensible but still need some idea as regards the meta tag situation - Kindest regards - Antonia
