Thread: Questions about Moving to BV

I have couple of questions and would be grateful for any help I can get.

1: We already have a ecommerce site that we need to rebuild and move. We don't want to redirect the domain until we have built our new site. How can we do this with BV?

2: We have over 1000 products, which shopping cart would be easy to use with BV.

3: We here cartmanager is a good cart and works with BV. Does anyone know how much it costs?

4: If we puchased a year of hosting and did not like the sevice can we get a refund for the unused months?

1. It depends on how you build. If you build with BV and use a cart like CM (which you mentioned) - you could build the entire store offline and publish all the pages, then redirect your domain name and have no downtime (except the time it takes for the domain redirection - mine wasn't down at all).

2. This again, depends on you. I find using BV and something like CM easy. Others prefer using a cart inherent in a builder - then you might not want to build with BV but would want to look at your other options - from Soho to OSCommerce to many, many, many cart builders out there.

3. I use CM and love it. You can find all the info here: CartManager

4. No - if you purchase a year - you cannot then get credit if you decide you want to host elsewhere. If you don't have confidence, pay the monthly hosting - and you can always upgrade to a year (or 3 years - which is the best!).

If I build my site in BV with a throw away domain, after we pointed are real domain to our BV site I would have to change the page names to match the domain name. Is this correct? Thank you all again.

On top of true carts mentioned above, many of the CMS foundations like Joomla, phpNuke, etc. also have eCommerce "cart" plug-ins avaliable as well. I think last count, VodaHost has 9 different eCommerce solutions available, and such a variety of foundations that it is almost difficult choosing one!

Soho now has a ton of new addons for shipping and alot of new templates to play with too. Just check the addon site.

If you build the site in BV - there's no reason not to use the domain name you're going to stick with - as until you move the nameservers - it won't effect the current site.
