Default how do you copy and paste into a new page

    Hi,
I am experimenting before I join, I have a lot of content on my computer that I wish to copy and paste into a new page, I can copy and paste into a text box but cant make it fit the confines of the text box, or edit it at all. As you can probably tell I am very much a newbie. I have a lot of content I want to copy onto the new web pages but am not having any luck!
Any idiot proof instructions will be appreciated

    John

copy and past in small paragraph size chunk and resize the box to your desired format.

    Hi John,

I just tried what I think you are asking about and it worked OK. Here's what I did:

    1. opened a new blank page in BV.
    2. clicked on the text tool to get a text box.
    3. using the end sizing handle, I spread it out sideways to almost the full width of the page.
    4. double clicked in the text box area and then clicked "paste" icon on the tools bar.
    5. It pasted everything from a large letter page that I had copied.
    6. I was able to edit and resize it just fine....no problems.

Prior to the above steps; I had pasted into the text area (box) without spreading it out sideways and then I could not edit or resize!

Also, make sure the page properties are set for a height long enough to accommodate all the content.

Hope I understood your question, correctly!

Hi STC... welcome! And you should join because if you are, like me, a novice, there is no better site builder, no better site host, and no better support than Vodahost and the Vodahost community.

Maybe, in newbietalk this will help clarify:

    From the Vodahost administrator himself:
copy and past in small paragraph size chunk and resize the box to your desired format.

    and from Dave (judavvforum)

    3. using the end sizing handle, I spread it out sideways to almost the full width of the page.

I like Dave's advice because once upon a time I was stuck on this same issue. When the text box is little it will default to the next line and you'll create a 'pillar' of text. Just open it up the width of the page or the space you have available and it will 'spread'. Play with it and you'll get the hang of it.

    Good luck!

Also - be careful about copying straight from word - as it can cause problems (word is not html friendly). You would be smart to copy anything you have in word first into notepad, then to the page - as that will strip any of the codes that could hurt.

Copying text onto a Blue Voda page from Word is not a problem at all ... it is even recommended, as it allows you to use the Spell/Grammar Check tool to your advantage. *And ... Word is very HTML friendly, especially if you compose with HTML preset as your preference rather than Rich or Plain text (which is important to create robust email or previewable Web pages --- see the many extensions of how you can Save a Word page, as well as View it in the work pane!).

If you are editing HTML, however, it is advisable to do so in Notepad as the formatting and "rules" that are forced onto text by Word are absent, leaving you with a true text-only editing capability.

It has been mentioned elsewhere that Notepad is an HTML editor: this is not true. Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Fusion, etc. are HTML editing software programs, since they properly format and tag HTML according to proper 'rules', but it is possible to edit HTML files in Notepad easily for the reasons described above.

I beg to differ, as I've helped 3 or 4 people who have done up entire pages using word - then discovered when they went to move the pages into BV, that the tables, etc they designed in word did NOT move over as they expected. Also - they had things lined up left here, right there, centered elsewhere- and that all got lost in the translation.

Yes, you can work in word - but you can't just move anything/everything over. It's caused problems for many.

No, notepad is not an html editor - but it is html friendly.

And, Vasili, I agree with much of what you are saying - but there are problems involved, depending on what they are doing there.

Well, no-one mentioned tables or other "elements" (just text, and text boxes) in the thread, so I suppose it is difficult for me to be a mind-reader this late in the Season!

That's why I thrive on clarity and brevity! Most of the time, I feel that a bit of amplified explanation is needed to prevent the opportunity for anyone to mis-interpret or assume.....kind of forces more discussion on particulars that way too, which is good in my book!

    and on we go.....

Unfortunately, no, the questions rarely give us that much info - but I notice most of them like to go from centered text to aligned text of some kind - and just that requires a change.

    And, I did think you were a mind-reader :)

And, NO I DID NOT EDIT my post - it stands exactly as I wrote it.

Word specific formatting tags will cause problems to BV even with simple text, so the best thing to do is create the text in Word, copy it to Notepad (which strips off these tags) and then copy / paste in BV.

I have often had problems with specifically formatted text, when pasting directly from Word.
