What is the difference between the pre-installed version of osCommerce and a version I would manually install?

Assuming I have a compatible configuration (Linux, Apache, php, mySQL) can I bring my site down to my local machine for testing and updates, once I've created it? If I use BlueVoda, will I be able to maintain and use it on my local machine without your in-house tools?

While if you know how to install and configure php and mysql on your computer, it should run the scripts. I don't htink BlueVoda would work though, I belive the only way to change the file bluevoda uses into a .html or .php file you have to publish the page to vodahost webspace
