My first posting. Just to say i am going through the tutorials and starting to set up a site before subscribing and so far very impressed. I've been in computers/ DP/ IT, "whatever" since 1969 and have never seen such an eay to use tool.

HI, been loking at a few websites from the forums but get overlapping text and images. Is it my IE settings likely to be causing problems.

To avoid this, I suggest to everyone to use tables, tables add structure to
to your web pages, could be your ie.

whilst agreeing with ***** I would check your windows settings too. I was using large fonts and had this problem when viewing other people's websites. What made it worse was that whilst mine looked great to me on my PC, there was lots of blank space on other PCs, and the whole thing looked very untidy! Took me ages to figure out why!

Cheers - and welcome to BV!

Tkanks for your answer Trish, have tried various text sizes from View option but still no joy. eg. looked at your webmasterproductions site (Looks really useful by the way) and got overlapping text etc. then used links from there which were fine. Don't understand!!!!!!!!!

Scubie, what size do you have your text set to display at? If you are displaying text on your screen larger - it will also cause that to happen. Look at View on your toolbar - and anything larger than medium will be causing you to have overlapping on text on sites.

Hi Everyone, Sorry to hijack a thread but I too am a newbie and didn't want to start a new thread for this.

First of all I would like to say hello to everyone.

I've done alot of searching on this site and all of your posts are really encouraging. A few minutes ago I posted in a wrong area and I was concerned that I wasn't sure if I could pull this off (building a website). Still not sure but willing to give it darn good try after reading these posts.

I have a couple of questions that I'd like to talk about with anyone that has time.

Is building a website really that easy (plan ahead, do the tutorials)? I have pretty much only "basic computer skills"
I'd like to try and get a few businesses to advertise or possibly charge to view my site. Has anyone done this and have any tips to share? Or ideas...good or bad?

I want to thank all that take the time to reply and let you know that I've been looking at the websites that some of you have built and they're really good. You all should be really proud of yourselves!

    Thanks again,
    DG

    Talking Re: Newbie

    Hi Dubai Girl,

I do not have experience in selling space on my sites but just wanted to encourage you to get stuck in. BV is fab and with a little effort you really can create a great website, there is support all the way too.

If I were you I would look at all the tutorials, have a play around and give it a go.

    good luck

    Dave

Thanks Dave ( I think ), I just signed up today and anxiously awaiting the confirmation email. I can't wait...scared but can't wait!

PS silly me but what does "get stuck in" mean? I've seen the support on here and it's amazing!!
