OK, this is driving me crazy. My blog tells me that the theme I selected is "uploaded but incomplete," and that the "stylesheet is missing."
What does this mean, and what step have I missed? I have watched the tutorial over and over, but can't figure out what has gone wrong.

I can't seem to get it to upload in the approved fashion. After clicking on the theme I want on the right, then trying to transfer to the left, the 'upload' window doesn't open.

    Go into your blueFTP.
    Connect.
    look for your wordpress
find the template that you have downloaded
make sure that all files are there.
sometimes when you load a new theme, some files can be missing.
Do you have the downloaded file on your computer?
I like to have my theme files in my bluevoda file for easy access.. then I can more easily check each and every file to make sure they are all there...
let me know what I can do to help.

I'm sorry, but I am just totally lost. I've never tried to construct anything like this before, have never used FTP. So I don't know exactly what you are referring to when you say "look for wordpress."
I am not sure I am even doing the right things at all. My compu-comprehension is about zero, and everyone else seems like profesionals.
Pretend that I am a child who knows absolutely nothing, and start from there. I don't think I'll get FTP otherwise. I seems extremely complicated to me.
I appreciate your help and interest, even though I am not a very apt pupil.

In BlueVoda - click tools - there you will see FTP manager.
    BlueFTP will then come up.
    Select connect.
There add your username and password
make sure that your server IP is the same as logging into your control panel...
    Are you with me?

    What templates do you have?
and if you downloaded them..where are the files you downloaded?

Ok. Alan, we seem to be hitting and missing one another so Ive written up a guide for you to follow. If Im not as clear as I feel I am then feel free to let me know and we can go from there.
I did a bit of investigation and found out that september 6th the wordpress server was buggy - you can read about it HERE
So that may have been your problem. If not try this:

add your template to your bluevoda file
    open blueftp
    connect
on the left scroll down until you find the file 'wordpress'
    double click wordpress
    double wp_content
    double click template
    highlight new template on right
at the top of Blueftp click move to
    tick include subdirectories
    click ok
your new template will then copy to your ftp
after file has finished copying to the right side
double click both folders on right and on left to open the files
You should see the exact same thing on both sides.
if not...again highlight the missing file on left and copy to the right.
you should see other folders within.
double click those on both sides and check to see if all files have copied.
continue thru each folder until you are sure all files and subdirectories are in fact copied over to ftp area...
if all are the same on both sides your new template should show up on your wordpress blog.

What you gave me seems clear enough. However, I do not have a 'wordpress' file. I can't remember what I downloaded my blog under. I'm not good w/ files, and especially have trouble w/ winzip. I think I'm a hopeless case.
I may just be one of those people who has to have something shown to me face-to-face, especially something as complex and unfamiliar as this.

Hey how are you doing? Please dont get discouraged. the hardest part of this is posting back and forth...the work itself isnt so difficult. Just ask and answer questions and we can get this completed!
    hope to hear soon.

I downloaded under Fantistico, but I think it was saved in my documents. Now I can't find 'wordpress.' I DO find 'green marinee,' the theme I tried to download later, in documents, on both sides of FTP. But the blog says the style sheet is missing, and the upload is incomplete. When I tried a transfer between these two, it took so much time that FTP logged out on me. The transfer was never completed. If I was even doing it correctly to begin with.

Good work Alan! very good information.

After installing wordpress fantastico will ask you for an email address to send the information about your wordpress site. admin/username/password and the such. You need that.
your url is the name of your blog at the end of your site address.
    www.kateart-cards.com/wordpress is mine....no frills..lol..just named it wordpress...lol...
ok, be patient. let me find the file where the style sheet is located. I dont know exactly. Ill get back to you.
Im sure you are doing it correctly. I also get logged off while doing file transfers..dont get discouraged.
    Ill be right back.

    Open your blueftp.
double click on your wordpress on your right.
on the left go to your documents where your template is stored.
    double click that folder.
On your right within your wordpress you wll find a folder called wp_content double click that.
    double click themes.
On your left find 'green marinee' double click to open.
now comes the difficult part/well not difficult...tedious.lol
you have to go thru each and every file at the same time going from left to right and make sure all information has in fact been moved.
    Now am I understanding correctly.
Your wordpress IS installed and working properely?
Your trying to get the theme uploaded?

Yes, that's correct. I may not be able to get to this until tomorrow morning though--work and a dental appt will probably prevent it. Thanks!

Ok, I don't have 'wordpress' per se, on the right. Or the left, for that matter. I have a lot of wp- type of folders, but don't know which one you are referring to.
When I double-click 'green marinee.zip' on the left, the zip file opens, and covers the viewing area. What is the proceedure for this--or is it incomplete? I am finding that zip files are a royal pain. They don't want to transfer, but instead to open in the FTP viewing area.

ok. when you downloaded wordpress..what did u name it...that name is the file you need to find...
my fault..as I named mine 'wordpress' sorry...
you have to deal with the zip first.
unzip and move that folder to your bluevoda file.
zips are a pain I agree. so I do it the hard way...after the file is unzipped I just move it to my desktop then to my bluevoda file.
you first have to have the access to the theme file before you can move that into ftp.

One more thing Alan is that you may need to download that theme again due to the server issues they were having. That might be a good thing, that way you can know that your download is a good one.

Is that what I am looking for, or would it be easier if I s****ped the whole thing and started over?

I just don't know. We're talking computer semantics here--I'm lost when it comes to things like that.
I've found that when I try to find out what things are/do things without knowing what I i'm doing, I tend to create a bigger mess than I already had.
I am a writer, not a computer scientist. I find this stuff painfully difficult. Phrases like "user friendly" scare me to death because it usually means friendly for experienced users. Which I'm not. Sorry about the rant.

on the left ive highlighted my blog file (wordpress)
on the right is that file after Ive uploaded it and opened it.
If you dont have all of that information then your missing files.
If you blog is in fact working and all is well, then your template has not been downloaded correctly and you can just delete it and do a fresh download.

After downloading a fresh template. go to wp_content and double click to open.

    THEMES SCREENSHOT-

After opening wp_content you will see the file templates.
    double click that to open.
there you will be able to move the fresh template from your left side to your right side....
lol..as you can see Ive downloaded a bunch of templates...
