Thread: Upgrading Wordpress using Fantastico

I just want to confirm something before I go ahead with upgrading. I had a look at Wordpress.org's installation instructions and there's quite a bit of backing up that needs to be done - a complicated process to do manually.

If I use the upgrade option in fantastico, will that happen automatically? I have custom themes and a lot of content and I'll cry long tears if I lose it all.

I will of course make a backup using Wordpress' control panel, but is there anything else I need to do before upgrading?

Using Fantastico will overwrite EVERYTHING but content. Templates, mods and so on will be lost if you go this route. Your posts are stored in the database and should be safe, but a database backup before any major change like this is highly recommended.

Oooh, thanks for the warning! Yep, I was afraid of something like this - will manually install in that case to make sure I know what's happening.
