Hi everyone. Here's my problem: I uploaded Wordpress to my Vodahost domain "antiattitude.com" with Fantastico and all was a snap. I played around a bit with a new theme "tarski" and it displayed ok. I even made a custom header for it. Then, when I looked at the file manager I noticed it looked like I had two sets of wordpress files connected to the root folder. So, thinking I had uploaded too many files (I had tried to upload with my Filezilla program which I'm just getting to know) I took action and promply deleted the wordpress files I thought were redundant. The blog worked fine before but I thought I'd just clean up the file manager - not a good thing! Now the site was broken. So now I thought I'll just re-install wordpress to my domain and start over since I hadn't posted yet anyway. No big thing right? Wrong! The install wizard in Fantastico says it couldn't install because you can't have more than one script in the root directory. I suppose I could fix that but now I'm a tad shy about deleting any more files in the file manager. What should be there in the root? What do I take out? and How do I get wordpress to believe there is no more install present in the root? In the Fantastico install wizard it says there are no current installations. So why does Wordpress not complete? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get blogging. |

Yes. I removed the Wordpress application with Fantastico but the file manager still shows ame files in the Home directory (in the root). When I try to reinstall with Fantastico, even though it tells me on the Wordpress page under "current installations: NONE " when I click on "New Installation" and fill out all the fields in the form it tells me that "the installation cannot be completed" "you cannot install more than one application in the root" UPDATE: I have now deleted all the files I can open in the remaining directory (home) but I see that my username is still showing next to the folder name (/home/my username/) in the file manager window. The install still won't allow. I guess I'm off to open a support ticket. Thanks. |

I suppose I could do that but all I have left is the "Home" directory. I cant get rid of it. If I create another directory how will I get it to show up as the default folder when that position is already filled by the folder marked "Home"? Thanks for your input. I'm learning from you as I go. ...David |

Your default directory/folder will always be public_html which the default/home/index page will always appear first on your website. You can add as many new directories/folders as you like and you can publish to any of these new folders like so: public_html/newfoldername so if you created a new folder called mywordpress you could install wordpress to public_html/mywordpress or yourdomain.xxx/mywordpress (Used as an example only)

When I type in the new folder name in the popup box (Create New Folder) and hit the "create new folder" button I don't see any change in the folder listings. Just the same "home/my password" folder as always. I tried logging out and coming back in so that it would reload but... no change. Any ideas?? Thanks soooooooo much for all your help. ...David |

Put in a support ticket for account reset. Looks like maybe permissions or files are preventing it from happening. Easiest to get rid of mal formed scripts etc is to have acct reset. Karen

Thanks Karen, that's exactly what I did. There's no loss on my part doing it because I didn't have anything started anyway. I just received an email from support asking if a reset to factory settings is really what I wanted. I replied with a "YES". So, I guess that's the end of it. I can now start over. Thanks everyone for all your help and support. What great crew we have here in Vodahost forums. ...David |
