The internet and computer age helps save lots of space and money when it comes to photographs. I just love taking photos, but have a tough time keeping and storing them. So I decided to do what most photographers do today, store my photographs on my computer and not print them out.

Moreover as this software has fewer resource requirements it can be easily used on lower end or older servers.

On an average, G1 can easily store about 5,000 images, and can be easily integrated into your web hosting and content management system. Gallery also has various skin or themes and supports various languages.

G2 is the next generation Open Source photo sharing web application from Gallery. G2 can be easily blended into small and large websites and web hosting systems. Features of this software include ease in creating photo galleries, extensive modular designs and fully theme able software.

G2 is best for use by people with large collections of photos. The software can easily keep the data of five, ten, a hundred and even a million images in its database, with minimum performance differences between them. However there is difference between Gallery G1 software that stores data in files (G1) and G2 software that stores data in a database.

While file based software takes about 0.1 second to open an album of 10 images, database software takes about 0.5 seconds to open albums of any size, even 10 image albums. This is why I decided that though G2 can store millions of photos, for my personal use, G1 was a much better option for photo Gallery software with my VodaHost web hosting system.
